Go ahead, sink your teeth in.

I loved this entry into the Clan of the Claw universe. Exiled: Clan of the Claw set up the worldview with the “dinosaur” vs. “mammal” competition—dinosaur lords enslaved the cat peoples, and a cataclysm on this part of the planet has allowed for a more overt than covert rebellion. It’s standard fare for exploring a lot of issues. What I particularly enjoyed about this book and hope is expanded in the next entry is the intriguing concept of dance magic. There’s a mix of magic and mental and manual technology. The cats follow core shamanic practices, and are the dancers. There are a lot of bard stories with magical music of instrument and voice, and there are stories with dancers as assassins, but there haven’t been a lot of dancer magicians—dancers, period—in the SFF pantheon. Dancers are usually thrown in with actors and prostitutes—entertainers and seducers. There’s the Robinson’s Stardance series, and I remember a story in which first contact on Earth was facilitated by dance as communication, but this promises a lot more depth if continued. Anyway I love how the concept’s being carried out. Yes, buy!

A Barely Entertaining Mash Up

This is a collection of short stories. I like novels as opposed to short stories. If the short story is good you're disappointed that it isn't a novel. This collection is by four authors I really enjoy. They produced four stories using the same universe setting and theme. The authors were S.M. Stirling, Mercedes Lackey, Eric Flint and Jody Lynn Nye. I liked Mz. Nye's story the best of the group.

The trouble with a collection of short stories in which the authors have decided on an environment is the disjointed nature of the stories. Each story is adequate but hardly outstanding as the stories don't really mesh well. Considering the four authors and how good they are, I found that surprising and disappointing.

The main plot of the story is the conflict between two divers species, a lizard based species and a feline based species. Simplistically cold blooded versus mammal with characteristics ascribed through stereotype. The lizards are the bad guys and the mammals are the good guys. The two groups interaction and their problems are centered around an enormous natural catastrophe.

The stories were ok, probably my general dislike of short stories vs novels contributes to my lack of enthusiasm for the book.

I enjoyed it.

Being book four of a series, the usual caveat applies. That is, if you've read the first three, what are you waiting for? If you haven't, this is not a good starting place.

That said, this book doesn't disappoint, moving the story forward and resolving some threads that have been building for awhile. It doesn't quite resolve everything, leaving the potential for more books, but it doesn't end things on a cliffhanger either. I enjoyed it and look forward to more by this author.

Like the others of this series I enjoyed this book ...

Like the others of this series I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The book is an obviously continuation of the story in that the conflicts established with Europeans in the prior books comes to a close. There no point about writing details of a 4th volume, if you liked the others you will like this one. The only thing I do not like about this book as is it's an obvious ending with no hints to a continuation. I hope the author finds reason to write more about Whiskey in future novels as its hard to find a multi book series I could read long term and this is one of them.

Can't Wait for Next Book

Nightmonger, furious at the heroes for disrupting his operations, jailing his supers, (and costing him money) declares war on the heroes and plans to start killing them. The book is chock full of great multi-hero and multi-villain fight scenes culminating in a climactic fight at Blacklight.

Lashback is currently the last book in the series. The next book is coming in the “near future.” I’m eagerly awaiting its publication.

Jordan and his crew are off to the `peaceful and idyllic planet' called Mira. The former crew of 14 on the former ship has been slaughtered. The last word spoken by the captain is screamed. `Dragons.'

Crew members act out of character, friends are not right somehow, not quite themselves. Even the experimental plants on board the ship act in a different way than ever before. First the crew was uneasy, now they're frightened of this unseen danger lurking among them.

Horrific and Fast-Paced Story

“Here Be Dragons” is what mapmakers used to write on areas of the ocean which were unknown and uncharted. Who knew what dangerous dragons lurked there? In this story, Captain Jordan and his crew travel across space to visit the planet Mira and find out what happened to the first crew there. I was reminded of Carpenter’s terrifying movie The Thing, but Rosenman takes it in new directions. One of my favorites and highly recommended.

I rate this book five flames

WOW this series only get better and better Ms. Kent is a brilliant talented writer. Her characters are strong, stunning, handsome, kind, powerful, sexy and steamy Hot. The dialogue is imaginative, real, Hot and steamy. This is a great series and all books you will love. You will smile and laugh out loud this what makes this a Awesome addition to the series.

Franco was just tagging along with his grandmother in her quest to sell some antiques. After entering Alicia’s store he was certainly ready to put on the charms not leaving the store before asking her out. Having been hurt before, Alicia was all about hardening her heart and keeping any contact purely physical – no emotions, no attachments. Her self-esteem is at an all-time low. Being hurt by a man will do that kind of thing to you. And when a really handsome wereman declares you are the one after just meeting you, well you can’t blame Alicia for being a little skeptical. To make it even more interesting, Marco, cousin to Franco wants in on the action too and Alicia now finds herself dealing with two men vying for a threesome relationship.

She did her best to avoid Steve, her last boyfriend and the one who turned her into a werewolf. But when the elderly care center he ran began mistreating her nana and the other residents, Alicia had to face him once more. True to her gut instincts the meeting didn’t go well and Alicia felt relieved more than ever she didn’t end up with that jerk. Steve ends up trying to change her mind once more at the bar but is abruptly stopped by Franco and Marco. How could she not be falling for these two handsome men?

I loved this story line the author wrote, it is very relatable and an easy read for me. The secondary characters and their plights make this a nice flowing read. The grandmother’s match making dinner was a hoot! I know we are talking weremen here but realistic in all other senses and I enjoyed that a lot.

The sex scenes were more than exciting between Alicia and her new weremen. And the humor throughout again just made this story all the more charismatic. Angie’s description of Steve being a ‘dreamboat at first but ended up a one-way cruise of his own’ had me laughing out loud. Don’t we all know someone like that? And it’s truly a bonus when you pick up a book and realize the setting is a place very close to your own home, literally.

Smooth reading.

This was a sweet tender read.. it started out with some major rough spots but nothing that could not be cleared away and tended to with the loving touch of a true mate. I enjoyed the story a great deal, the characters and their struggles touched me.. I would have liked to see the jerk get more punished for what he did to all those women and the elderly people.

Callista is the hot sexy woman that is about to drop into his life and turn his world upside down and inside out and make the unbelievable a reality. This book is very action packed and full of fun comical moments that will keep you laughing. How did I feel about these characters... I just loved them... I could totally relate with a lot of the issues they were going through, such as the inability to sleep well, waking up to the random noises in the night (granted I don't get killed when I hear random noises). The story makes you wish for a family like Tucker has.. HUGE... over bearing... but always always always looking out for eachother no matter what. If you read anything this year, this would be the book to read.

Brilliant First For This Series!

This is one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a while! I chuckled and giggled a lot over some of the predicaments that Tucker and Calli found themselves in, others, well lets just say it's a good thing that Calli has her particular set of skills. You see Calli is a very special Lady. She is a shifter! She can shift into a Calico Cat and also a tri-colored leopard. The organization she works for is made up of all manner of shifters. Tucker is her current assignment. After 14 years, he has been discharged from the Marines with Shrapnel in his hip and a case of PTS. His carreer in the military is cut short and he is already entrenched into a lonely exsistence. His physical injuries will heal with time, it's the other that Calli is here to help with.....but here's the thing, Tucker has a secret. ....one that may be the death of both himself and Calli. And the whole thing goes deeper than Tucker even knows....On top of everything there is a sexual awareness between them that is becoming impossable to ignore. The twists, turns and drop in your lap surprises will keep you reading til the very last page. Turns out that it's a small world after all for Calli and Tucker. I have to call this a must read and am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Low And Behold

Ahh man this author has gone and done it again. Also by now though too I should know to expect the unexpected from her also. I went into this book thinking ok this will probably be just another shifter book but hey I do like paranormal. Right off as I start reading I am given Callista Sundance who has vehicle problems but low and behold along comes help. This help is in the form of one who is oh so pleasing to the eyes by the name of Tucker West and she also realizes something really important, he happens to be the one reason she is here on her way to Carson Creek. He is a ex marine sergeant and she helps heroes anonymous by posing none other as service animals. Talk about now she has my attention because that is novel and now I am barreling through on their story. Humor is plentiful also because when she is in her cat shape cute calico that is you will find yourself chuckling at some of the remarks after she has found a way to get in his house with him interacting with her. On a side note too I like that when they are in their animal shape they can talk and be understood. Anyways the attraction is also ignited but the level in here will be just right and not too much to choke out the story. Anymore to me that is important as a reader because I want stories, sure I want romance but not the kind that drowns all else out then I would read erotic. She also has plenty of danger that will be introduced with someone coming after Tucker with it being a good thing Calli was around. I am telling ya this has everything you would want in a suspense drama in the paranormal fantasy romance. This author also came up with the perrrfect title too which once I am more than half way through it would chuckle just thinking about it. Gotta give Tucker credit too when he learns some truths where Calli is concerned and her friends he does not do the freak out either. Intriguing foundations in this novel that gives the basis also for this series with the scoop on Calli and Tucker just the right magic to put them in the reader leaving them loving them for sure. by the time I am finished with this one I am now trying to wait patiently to see what she has this series doing next and who will we get up close and personal with.

Entertaining and haunting all at once!

I literally just finished this one and could not wait to comment. The second book of the series and I really didn't think it could top the first book, but it held its own quite abundantly. This one takes place 200 years after the timing of the first book with the survivors of what is called the Great Loss, which is the result of the virus being unleashed in the previous book. There are entirely new characters who end up meeting up with other survivors that were their complete opposites and quite frankly their lifestyles parallel the old thinking in the first book and quite dreadfully the kind of society we find ourlseves in today. There is a start contrast in not only the way of living but also how each think about the world. Some of which are more about modernization and comsumption and the others about sustainability. It ends up being not only a very entertaining story, but also one that is hauntingly thought-provoking, which is my favorite part. I look foward to seeing the new village being cultivated in the new book and wonder if I will get to see that or if there will be a huge leap forward as is found in the first and second book. I am glad there is still a few days left in this weekend, because I am gonna read the next one! I recieved the entire series in exchange for reading the books and giving my honest opinion.

Yet another thrilling story my Kroes. 2222 is almost as good as 2022. This story has complex characters, I truly love this book, Kroes challenges the reader to think outside of the box, this book truly made me think outside of the literal box. This book is wonderful and I cannot wait to see what happens next! I would recommend this book to anyone who loved 2022, or anyone who is looking for a great read!

Melissa C. Water was born and raised in a small town in Quebec, Canada. She grew up trying to write novels but never finished them. Her High School English writing teacher inspired her to continue to write poetry and stories, and also inspired her to believe in her abilities as an author. Melissa wrote her memoir of her time in a psychiatric ward for self-harm and bulimia, as well as writing a comical yet dramatic science fiction series for young adults. Different but a good read.

Honor is a typical teenager, though it was hard to pin her age down. She seemed a bit immature especially when she discovers that she's different. The two protagonists are a bit flat. The boyfriend is nice and supportive. THEN she discovers she's been "modified". She suddenly develops super powers. Aside from manipulating air, time and finding she can become invisible the promise of these powers is only hinted at by the protagonists. We are introduced to two characters and briefly several more but their agenda is never clearly delineated. In short Honor was created for a purpose but it's never made clear why for for whom.

All in all it's a pretty good story. It's different and I enjoyed it.

Take the voice honest voice of Merissa Meyer (Scarlet: the lunar chronicles), the honest flow of Margaret Haddix (Among the Hidden), and the Gallic sensability of Suzanne Martel (Quatre Montréalais en l'an 3000 ) and you get Water's book Saving Honour. A pretty good read with a strong voice and strong readability thjs a boom for all if us who feel a little different at times

Honor is a good name for a character. I liked this book, as well. I think my niece would enjoy it too. Honor finds out she has some abilities and what she chooses to do with them is part of the book. This book made me think of Supergirl and Superman a little. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Voyage to the surface of the planet...

Majesty's surface was covered by jungle. Jungle, in some areas, that was six miles DEEP. Nobody had EVER seen what lay at the bottom, not even the natives, the taflak, knew what was under the Sea of Leaves. So when Lysandra and her father, G. Howell Nahuatl (both characters from Tom Paine Maru) are hired to test out a subfoline they don't know what they will find. A Yeti, a lost civilization and the Hooded Seven. Oh my.

The first few chapters overlap the last few chapters of BrightSuit MacBear. In fact, both Middle C and Goldberry, characters from BrightSuit MacBear, become major characters in this story.

Here is the funny part. When I first red this story years ago I knew nothing about the Confederacy Series or about L. Neil Smith. I enjoyed the story, then years later found The Probability Broach and only now have linked the book to the author. Taflak Lysandra is a adventure story, first and last, set in a different universe. Once again, you could read it as a stand alone, like I did so many years ago, or as part of the greater whole, like I just finished doing.

A juvenile but written well enough for adults

This is a story in the universe of 'Probability Broach' by the same author. It is the second of a sub-series in a juvenile vein - Brightsuit MacBear was the first - and the third hasn't been written yes as of October 2013.

The Taflak are an alien, tripodal race that lives on a world smothered in greenery gone wild - thousands of kilometers deep at the equator. In this adventure we find clues to what caused the growth, and what the planet was like before.

Science fiction in a libertarian-philosophy vein.

Weakest of the L. Neil's Confederacy books

I've enjoyed all of the Confederacy (not southern confederacy) books written by L. Neil Smith since the first one "The Probability Broach." However, this one was the least enjoyable of the stories.
Similar plot line to most of the others. Free and highly armed individuals whip evil pro-government conspirators.

Hugh recently moved to program analysis, with a focus on information systems, which allows him to combine his intelligence and investigative experience with his background in computers and love of strategy. Hugh's academic background is in computer and information science and economics, but he has a wide variety of interests including (but definitely not limited to): astronomy, chemistry, geopolitics, cyber-security, and history. Reading has been a lifelong hobby of his, which helped make writing Paradigm Lost a dream come true.

AIs, battle action and likeable characters

This was an enjoyable book from first-time author, Hugh Taylor. The plot-line was interesting and took a surprising direction that I wasn't expecting. What starts as an investigation into the destruction of a naval ship, and the possible theft of a new weapon design by pirates turns into a full-blown first contact situation. I loved the unique concept of a human/AI culture in the future where AIs are considered equal and can hold a variety of positions in society - on the Lincoln, where much of the action takes place, the XO is an AI and the lead character, Liam Ward who is human, was once married to an AI. There is battle and boarding action - all quite well described; likeable characters, a good plot-line and an interesting future universe. All in all I very good, action-packed book and am looking forward to the next book.

NCIS Ad Astra, sort of

OK, the main character is not Leroy Jethro Gibbs. But he is in a similar position. He's a civilian naval investigator who is assigned to a starship which is detailed to find out how another starship met its doom. The story is very interesting. But what impressed me the most is the writing ability of the author. I've read a number of "first time" authors. Many times, their work has misspellings, bad grammar,and poor sentence construction. But this author is nearly perfect (because nobody is perfect), much like an established author. Reading the book was a smooth and pleasant as riding in a luxury car on a super highway. No bumps or jostles due to poor English.

The story itself in very interesting in some of the ideas about the evolution of machine intelligence versus biologic. And the conflicts which might occur between them. And will the aliens be biologic or mechanical or a combination? This book is one of the few which I have read, other than Asimov's Robot series & Weber's Dahak, in which machine intelligence is a core issue.

I eagerly await the next in the series.

First time author hits sci-fi home run!

I decided to take a gamble on this book since it seems to be Mr. Taylor's first. I have to say I was a bit undecided thru the first chapter but then it began picking up nicely. The story about an integrated human / android culture that has a First Contact experience with a less than (oops, no spoilers!) was well paced, easy to read, and the dialogue, while a bit stiff at times, wasn't bad. By the last third of the story I was thoroughly engaged and couldn't put it down until finished. For a first timer, I'd say Mr. Taylor did a very fine job and I'm looking forward to the sequel!
