Not just for tourists - learn something new with every step!

This book was written by a friend, so I was a little biased from the start... However, it is a GREAT guide to New Orleans. I lived in the Crescent City for almost three decades. moving after Katrina incurred her wrath on our home. My heart lives in two places, my hometown and my adopted NOLA. What a treasure for natives, visitors and tourists! Walking the city is a great way to justify all that wonderful food and drink you will enjoy while there!

Altertative way to experience New Orleans.

This book is a fantastic guide for any one who is really desiring to get the most of there visit to "The Big Easy." I wished I have had this item my prior trips. The author does an excellent job in breaking down the different parts which one might wish to spend time exploring in more detail. I would suggest utilizing this guide along with your "smart phone" or tablet to get the most of your walking or driving experience. Also, the restaurant reconmendations are a bonus saving one time and a few "$." I recommend the Kindle edition as it will provide one with detail maps of the areas you are walking through.

Wonderful Ideas for Easy Walks around NOLA

Just back from a trip to New Orleans and purchased this book at the Tulane University bookstore while I was there. Now I can't wait to go back and try some of the suggested walking tours. I've been to the city several times but there is always more to see and I love how the author presents 30 walks you can do by yourself and really get to experience all the wonderful neighborhoods of New Orleans. Easy to follow and written by a native. It's small enough that you can pack it in your bag and bring it along. Enjoy.

Engaging Story with Plenty of Twists and Turns!

Divide and Conquer is a smart urban fantasy set in Seattle. Told in dual POV, this story has plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading, and the writing is absolutely fabulous. It's certainly not what I would have expected from a debut author. The fight scenes are action-packed and the dialogue is witty and humorous. Ms. Fox is definitely one to watch! A new favorite series!

Lea is smart and clever, but naive in many ways. She has no idea where she really came from. She has no idea what's in store for her, or where destiny might lead her. Battle-hardened Nieve is the royal champion of Elonia. She has dedicated her life to protecting the king, but she's ready for a life of her own. Her final assignment is to find Lea and bring her back to Elonia. Easy, right? Not so much. It seems danger has already discovered Lea.

I loved this book! It's a great urban fantasy story with flawless world-building and unforgettable characters. The story is told from dual first person points of view. Nieve and Lea alternate chapters, so we hear the story from two completely different perspectives and it really works well for this book. Lea is such a fun character. At the beginning of the book, we discover she's a scientist and extremely intelligent, but she still comes across as a little naive and unworldly. She's clever with words and can be a smart ass, but not in a snotty way. This is a girl who is completely unequipped to handle what is in store for her. Nieve is the opposite of Lea in many ways. She's a competent fighter and confident in her position as royal champion. She's tough, but we're gradually introduced to her vulnerabilities and fears.
I always harp on character development in my reviews, and this story is a prime example of character development done right. Circumstances force both main characters to undergo serious changes, but these characters also exercise free will and make choices that show true character development. Yes, they are pushed and pulled by external forces, but they continue to wrestle for control of their own destinies. When everything falls apart, we see the true strengths and weaknesses of each character in this story, and it's quite surprising.

If you're looking for an action-packed read with multifaceted, courageous characters and a little bit of romance, this is the book for you. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to get my hands on the next installment in the series.

WOW…..This was one hell of a debut book for Carmen Fox. If you are a lover Urban Fantasy….…hell……..even if you never read one before you MUST pick up a copy of Divide and Conquer.

I read the first line of the synopsis and I was hooked…” Two women. One prophecy. Zero places to hide.” How can that not get your attention…

The 2 women – Nieve & Lea…..You will love and adore them as much as I do. Nieve is the serious out of the two and Lea is one kickass spitfire who I want to be when I grow up. I am not one for spoilers, but will tell you that this books has it all secrets, some romance, betrayal and some strong heroines who make you laugh as well as hope you never come across them.

Carmen Fox’s writing is astonishing. The back story is brilliant, the characters are well developed. I love the dual POVs as you get a chance to see what Nieve and Lea are thinking/feeling during each chapter. You will fall in love with each and every character you meet. And let’s not forget the bad guys… they are well bad, but that’s what we want right? As you read the book you become completely spell bound by the vivid descriptions of what is going on. You will feel like you are a part of an action pack movie. Fox seriously knows how to write some action packed, kick ass fight scenes.

I am extremely excited to see what else Ms. Fox has under her sleeve for upcoming books. She will forever be a #1CLICK for me and has completely turned me onto a new world of Urban Fantasy.

I Like Space... A Lot

Great continuation to the story! Absolutely love Nick and the progression of the story. My only gripe though is the illustration on the cover for the book. That tree by the letter 'T' is completely off among a few other details. A good book definitely needs to have a matching cover! May want to consider hiring a middle school student to properly edit that for you.

You're going to end it there????

I am hoping - despite there not being a book four right now - that the author is going to write some kind of follow up to this one. There are just too many un-answered questions; questions that I won't go into here so as not to spoil the book for others.

While I still love the characters, I'm not sure I like the direction she took them in this time. I do hope there is a book four - at least - to tidy up the VERY abrupt ending in this one!

Also, I agree with another poster that just because Addy is now deaf, she should still be able to speak. Just saying...

Inspiring read

I want to sign up for a branch of the military just to feel the spirit that these men & women feel to fight amongst their brothers & sisters in arms. There is no greater sin then the jihadist thought of view; to think that any God would want to commit genocide regardless of being an infant....Sick is the only thought that fits; mentally ill & animalistic deserving nothing but death to erase this monstrosity from our planet. These are sick people hiding behind religion in order to promote their deranged outlook of what they envision. Drop a bomb and end it before something like this current fictional read is brought to life...reading this I have chills just knowing that what I hold dear to my heart, family, friends, patriotism & religious morals/beliefs in humanity could all so easily be wiped out by animals who wouldn't shed a tear in return... 911 but global. A scary but amazing eye-opening read.

If you like post-apocalyptic fiction

The pace is steady, but the plot is not predictable. This is the third book in the series, and I am eager to read the next one. If you like post-apocalyptic fiction, this is a good series. Lots of likeable, but very human characters, some real bad people, and plenty of action. There is much to learn about survival and prepping here, too, but not so much that it takes away from the tale, like many books. This author knows how to be subtle in giving advice, and how to be realistic in creating characters who are not all sweetness and light and not totally evil.

It wasn't until several life-changing events that he decided to do what he loves and chase his dream to become an author. His writing style includes all the heart-pounding action of a dark superhero tale mixed with unique symbolism to reflect events and themes in the real world through various perspectives. The Immortal Coil series was written with the intent to show how history truly does repeat itself and even though we are all different, it does not mean we have to be alone.

Loved it!!

When I first picked up this novel I was skeptical due to recent supernatural novels falling short. However, I have to say that the world created by the author was truly immersive. It was a great new take on the supernatural genre. If you’re a fan of suspense action thrillers you should give it a try. It expands from a simple dark urban setting to a world rich with a culture and detailed lore of it’s own.
The characters are all very well developed and the plot twists always have you on the edge of your seat. I was able to relate to the main character, Dorian, in particular. His inner conflicts were really moving. The supporting characters are also extremely memorable; Noah is super hot, and even though has a hysterically abrasive personality, will grow on you and leave you begging for more.
One thing that I also loved was how I was able to envision the entire book in my head. This made the book fly by, despite its length. I definitely give 5 stars and recommend to everyone who loves vampires that don’t sparkle! ;)

This book is full of suspense & thrills! I didnt want to put it down till the end. someone or something is watching from the sidelines as humans make their fate for mankind... they also have a hand in anipulating the outcome! Young Dorian is included in thier plans.... This is a must read for those thrill seeking lovers!

It's like drugs, but good for you

To be honest, I can't recall how I initially discovered this book, but after having read the excerpt provided here, I was instantly hooked and bought it on impulse. Upon receiving the book two days later (love that 2-day shipping!), I tore into it ravenously. I've got a bit of a nasty habit where, when I get my hands on something truly engrossing, I'll read it obsessively until I'm done and am craving more. It's like drugs, but good for you!
The story was solid, bringing in various factions of fantasy, but in a clever and cohesive manner.
Dorian's reactions to the new environments, characters and situations are realistic, and (I think) relatable to most people, and I enjoy how Noah always keeps you guessing. I'm always afraid of commenting about the details of the books, because I don't want to give anything away!

To sum it up, The Immortal Coil is ranked near the top of my favorite series ever list, for sure! I'm definitely going to be re-reading these again!

Very thought provoking. Made me think of the world in the walking dead, very cut throat and survivalist. Read all three books. Ending is surprising

Ok everything I thought would happen did not total surprise.

Wow what a journey one you think will end like most do with happiness but it's called death for a reason. I could not put this trilogy down running my iPad battery to empty and charging it was the only reason to stop reading. I was surprised and shocked so many times. A story that kept me guess and saying WTF! A must read that will keep you reading and will give a reading hangover.
