Barbara Monajem wrote her first story at eight years old about apple tree gnomes. After dabbling in neighborhood musicals and teen melodrama, she published a middle-grade fantasy when her children were young. Now her kids are adults, and she writes historical and paranormal romance and mystery for grownups, including the award-winning Bayou Gavotte series and several lively Regencies. She lives near Atlanta, Georgia with an ever-shifting population of relatives, friends, and feline strays.

An Entertaining and Magical Story to Delight the Reader Seeking an HEA!

From the first paragraph I knew Barbara Monajem was going to charm the socks off me with her honest-to-goodness hobgoblin. Hobgoblins go by other names so you may know of them as imp, goblin, gremlin, pixie, well you get the picture. Most people can’t see hobgoblins, but Lord Fenimore Trent has one hanging around his home. Hobgoblins can be difficult. You need to remember to always be polite and never, EVER give it something and then take it back. That is, if you care to keep any sort of order in your life!

From the first, I appreciated Lord Fen’s work ethic and desire to keep himself busy as a furniture maker. You see, he had a bit of magic in him that necessitated such an occupation. I’ll let Fen tell his story himself, but suffice it to say, it was best for him and those around that he made beautiful furniture. His father was embarrassed at his trade. After all, he was the son of a Marquis, Marquis of Overwood to be exact.

Fen’s furniture partner, Harry Wellcome, got himself in a bit of trouble and Lord Fen was determined to get him. At the same time, his past love of five years previous was planning on getting married to Lord Slough (such an appropriate name!) whom Lord Fen suspected involved in some unsavory business, possibly traitorous to his country.

I enjoyed character Andromeda Gibbons, a woman full of imagination, nerve, bravery and intelligence. She was also still half in love with Lord Fenimore whom she hated (?!?!?!), but he had dumped her for no reason some five years earlier. That’s when she decided to be the perfect lady, so perfect she eventually began hating who she had become, the fiancée to Earl of Slough. But the saying holds true, you can’t change the spots on a leopard. Underneath all that ladyship, she was some woman!

Andromeda’s mother believed in magic and shares that part of her with Andromeda before she died when Andromeda was young. She gave her a locket telling her if she needed desperately help the locket would provide it. After her mother died, her aunt and father had pretty much erased those memories from Andromeda. Can Andomeda regain her belief in magic in time to save herself from certain death?

The hobgoblin stole my heart. Harry Wellcome was full of surprises and quite the character. Lord Slough was truly wonderful to hate. The cast of characters was entertaining, creating magic, suspense and romance as Ms. Monajem's stories all provide!.

The moral of this story seems to be don’t be in a hurry to believe bad things about what people say about someone you know and trust, even when the confidante is your closest friend.

Loved this story from Barbara Monagem with its magic and paranormal happenings nestled in a Regency setting.

Lord Fenimore is happy with what he is doing

Lord Fenimore is happy with what he is doing. His business is brisk for a gentleman turned tradesman. He is a furniture maker. And he is very good at it! His father, however, sees things differently. He does not accept that his son wants to stay in trade. He doesn't understand Fen's love of working. I think he is offended by it!
Fen's Partner, Mr. Wellcome has been accused of treason and transporting spies into England. Fen knows this is not true and sets out to find out who is actually doing these things. They figure out that the person must be of noble birth and well known in the ton. They both have a suspect in mind and decide to start watching him. Mr. Wellcome, disguised as a footman, and Fen go to a ball to watch him. Unfortunately, the woman who broke Fen's heart just so happens to be this man's fiance. The man is Lord Slough and his betrothed, Fen's childhood friend, Andromeda Gibbons.
Fen and Andromeda both shared something that no one else, except Andromeda's mother, understood or believed. They used magic. They could both see the hobgoblins running around and they both knew true magic. Andromeda's mother had fairy blood. Her father never believed or tried to believe. After her mother's death, her father and aunt persuaded her that it was not real and she lost her magic. And she lost Fen, by the word of what he thought was a friend.
Now they meet again in a crowded ballroom, indifferent acquaintances only, she is rude and snubs him, but seeing him makes her realize that her life isn't going where she wants it to. She decides to go a sit quietly to think things out, finding an empty sitting room, she relaxes. Unfortunately someone is coming just as she is leaving, she must hide for she recognizes the voice of the man, it is Lord Slough. She hides behind the drapes and waits. Only to hear an assignation with a Frenchman who was hiding on the terrace. She finds out Lord Slough is a spy!
But who to go to? She knows no one will believe a woman. They will say she is hysterical and just wants to end the betrothal. True but beside the point. The only person she knows that will believe her is Fen. Luckily she knows where he has his shop, she just hopes he lives over the shop or comes to work early. Can he help her figure out what to do next?
This story is full of magic, a bit of romance, mystery and intrigue! I truly enjoyed the characters. And the touches of magic. It was a quick read for me, mostly because I couldn't put it down! Fantastic writing and wonderful scene descriptions made me feel like I was there! I highly recommend this book and this author!

I was given a complimentary copy from the author for an hones review. This book is really intriguing. It kept me guessing the entire time. I loved the paranormal aspect to this story. I love historical romances but add in the paranormal aspect and it is perfect. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This was an excellent offering from a first time author

This was an excellent offering from a first time author. The editing was impeccable and the story engaging. I found myself drawn into the character's worlds, but in particular I found Barnabas fascinating. Mr. Foote presents an interesting world rife with intrigue, maneuverings, and outright warfare between the forces of heaven and hell, with Barnabas and Kalyndriel caught squarely between them.

You won't be disappointed if you pick this up.

This was a riveting story and I enjoyed it greatly

This was a riveting story and I enjoyed it greatly! Characters are multi-faceted and engaging. Scenes are set monumentally, yet are cerebral. My first Kindle experience (there were some typos) - I'm not a convert...yet. That not withstanding, this is a different twist on Heaven and Hell and what defines right and wrong or good and bad. In this rendition, those definitions are blurred and that is what makes these characters so engaging. Great read!!

From a first time author I wasn't expecting much to be honest but I couldn't put this book down! Made me laugh and made me ponder life and death. The author really makes the characters come to life and I was curious to see how each of their stories ended. I hope that the author is just beginning and there will be more books from him

The long wait has ended!

I have rated this series 5 stars from the first book because of the great writing and character development. I almost gave Winter Apocalypse 4 stars because there was almost too much going on. J.W. Vohs writes really good action scenes but that action seemed to overwhelm the story development. It was nice to see some of the vignettes come into play. I wish after such a long wait,there would have been more story less action. I still love the series and I am really looking forward to the next installment.

Getting a little weird and drawn out

I'll start by saying the series had a great start and had me hooked. 5 stars! Good character development with an interesting medieval twist on the zombie apocalypse inspired by one of the author's students. It was really engaging up until about the 3rd book. By the 4th, and now 5th, things are getting a little repetitive, drawn out, and weird. There's plenty of action throughout but it's the same battle, just different location. The same last ditch effort, the same miraculous save. It's anti-climactic at this point. I found myself scanning the last 25%, making sure I correctly tallied who died and who survived.

Another thing that is becoming increasingly irritating is that Jack and his fellow survivors seem to have EVERYTHING they need for every situation they encounter at just the right moment. Yet nobody from Indiana to Louisiana to Utah can scrounge up at least one MANPAD to drop those helicopters out of the sky and negate President Barnes' only strategic advantage. Cave dwelling Afghans have these things but Jack and his fellow Army Rangers can't find one? But, if they need a .50 cal with armor piercing rounds they can whip one up in a jiffy!.

Then there's Luke. Or should I call him Neo at this point? Initially the story had good human drama, similar to The Walking Dead. However, Vohs took the tale in a Matrix / "Chosen One" direction. Luke may not have wings but I'm pretty sure he'll be flying by the next installment. Toss in some divine providence and it kinda feels like the wheels have come off of this thing.

I would have preferred the author stuck solely with the original student-inspired idea that started this journey instead of taking it along a mystical route with Luke. It probably would have made for a finished 5 star series by now. As it stands, I see a few more books on the horizon before Luke finds himself and we get down to the business of kicking President Barnes' teeth in. But hey, it's not my story to tell.

I still give it 3 stars one the whole and I will probably continue to read more. Despite my issues, I would recommend anyone who likes ZA fiction give this a shot.

This latest entry in the Zombie Crusade series left me feeling worn out by the non-stop action and heart wrenching tale. This carefully crafted story checked all the boxes for me and now I cannot wait for the next installment. Bravo Mr. Vohs.

About the Author
Thomas Campbell, MD, is an instructor of clinical family medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He coauthored The China Study, which sold more than a million copies and inspired the 2011 documentary Forks over Knives. He also is director of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, a nonprofit organization in Ithaca, New York, which promotes optimal nutrition through science-based education, advocacy, and research in partnership with eCornell, Cornell University's online course provider. Long awaited and worth every moment we waited!!

Dr. Campbell shares his years of research, study and professional education on the benefits of a whole food plant based diet in this most welcomed follow up to the massively successful 2005 - THE CHINA STUDY which he co-wrote with his father, T. Colin Campbell PhD, the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University. The Campbell Plan, based on scientific evidence presented in peer reviewed journals and the work of his father in The China Study, along with years of his own personal clinical experience, practicing as a family physician in Rochester NY through the University of Rochester Medical Center brings us information so dearly needed and yet often convoluted in mainstream media. This book is very well organized and easily readable. Dr. Campbell addresses a multitude of myths, controversies and major confusion the American public has on nutrition around such topics as grains, gluten, protein, fish oil. GMO's, 'does it need to be organic?' and more. He gives us very practical "this is how you can begin to incorporate the science" into your day to day life. His writing style is very down to earth with a very knowledgable yet humble tone. The personal stories are touching and it is clear to see his intention in writing this book is to help people who are far to often struggling and medicated for conditions they can treat and in many cases reverse though incorporating a WFPB (whole food, plant based) diet and the learnings in this book. It has been a while since I have been so excited about a book, but I am loving this book and cannot put it down. There are 55 recipes in the back which look incredible. The Minestrone Soup is a favorite of mine and all recipes are WFPB with no added oil. This is food the way nature intended us to eat it. Lastly, there are 18 pages of references in the back of this very well researched book. I have purchased copies for family and friends. This book WILL and IS changing lives!

The Most Important New Book For Every Physician, And For Every Person With Interest In Health and Whole Food, Plant-Based Eating

Dr. Thomas Campbell dedicates the book to the usual relatives, and then to “the patients everywhere looking to take control of their health.” This book is truly a tool for just that purpose.

The book is divided into three parts. The first part is the Foundations of Health, wherein he explains the wildly successful book, The China Study, that he wrote with his father; all about what a “paleo” diet is; his Three Food Groups, which are animal products, processed plant fragments and whole plants; and what it takes to succeed at the Campbell Plan. The second part of the book covers Hot Topics. He thoroughly explores sugar, soy, oils, fats, fish, wheat, gluten, organics, GMOs, supplements and what I feel is the most important topic, that of feeding children. The third part of the book covers The 2-Week Campbell Plan. He explains the concept of Out with the Old and In with the New. Then he goes into menu planning and shopping, and making the Campbell Plan a plan for life - making it stick! Then at last comes the fun part, the Recipes!

Dr. Campbell includes 19 pages (smaller print, meaning lots on a page!) of endnotes from every chapter except the one on menu planning and shopping, and his conclusion chapter. This is truly research based information, and yet is always engaging and interesting. And there is a great Index, that specifies everything from cancer to cakes, and from casein to cauliflower!

I believe this book should be put into the hands of every physician in this country. I think it would start a revolution in the health and wellbeing of every American. Then we (Americans) would be the leaders of the most important movement of our time. I believe a revolution around what all of us eat every day would do no less than solve world hunger, and stop environmental degradation and violence on many levels. I do not believe I am being naive, as I have had the luxury of studying and reading about this topic in detail for the last five years, ever since having to deal with my own health issues. Most people who find this lifestyle and want to try it, do just that. They learn what they need to know to feel comfortable with it, and then they do what they decide to do with the information and move on from there. But not me. I became obsessed with the topic. I wanted to know everything from how what we are eating affects our own human health, to the ethical reasons for consuming a whole food, plant-based diet, to why we should do it for the health of our planet. I have attended conferences, online webinars, health summits and taken numerous classes from some of the most dedicated, research based leaders in the field of whole foods, plant-based eating. I feel very confident in saying that if you have any interest in how whole foods, plant-based eating can affect your health or the health of your loved ones, you should read or listen to The Campbell Plan. It will be the most beneficial use of your time, whether you are new to the idea of a whole food, plant-based way of eating or you are the most educated PhD, wanting to delve into the research. Make the time for this book. It will change your life, no matter who you are.

Looking Forward

We live in an era of anti-science. Nutrition is no exception. I am delighted to get a well written, clear, and science based book on nutrition. Of course the book advocates a whole plant life-style. Neanderthals went extinct (or got absorbed) because they could not adapt. We face a nutritional crisis. Rather than looking back to our caveman past, or our present processed, franchised, fast food system, I think our future lies along the lines of Tom Campbell's book.

For much of my mid-adulthood I was 30 lbs overweight and near retirement I developed Diabetes Type II. I choose a plant based diet and exercise route. For the last five years I have been symptom free. Now as a retiree, an additional issue has shown itself. As a retired American with a modest income the price of food has become an issue. Few diets, cook books, or videos address this issue. So beside being healthy and ethical towards animals, I would like to see more concern about the cost of food. I would hope that a simple whole plant based style of living proves to be also more affordable.

HUNGER GAMES AND DIVERGENT LOOK OUT!!

Oh My Gosh! This series was the best I have read to far. It should be made into a movie because it would truly knock Hunger Games and the Divergent out of the box. The author did a great job making this futuristic wold perceivable and believable. The fact that many of the character's die makes it even more real. This was one of the best roller coaster rides of my life and truly a great escape from reality. The story makes one appreciate the harsh world we live in today and gives us hope for a better future. Thank you Tarah Benner and I pray this series makes the big screen!

If you enjoy dystopian fiction, you must read this trilogy! I have read approximately 100 dystopian fiction books and rate this easily fi
ve stars...and I'm pretty stingy with my rating stars! Ms Benner has a true gift for writing and keeping it interesting! I read each book in a day and love her writing style and ability to keep you in suspense. I strongly recommend this book, as I did the first 2 in this series. No wasted adjectives and long drawn out situational angst....gets right to the point! I'm no teenager....I'm actually past 50 and rated many books....I know a good writer when I read one! The characters are great, imperfect and believable as are the situations and futuristic world they are living in! Again, blown away by Ms Benner! I can hardly believe it is being offered at so low a price. I see a movie here!!

wonderful read

I tend not to review books individually until the trilogy ends. This trilogy was fast paced and hard to put down. The author still owes me a night of sleep. The books made me cry and care and hope. There were losses and it would have felt wrong if there weren't. Despite being told by one person, I got a true sense of all the characters. Tarahs writing is very visual, and although it made me picture the gore a little to vividly, it played like a movie in my mind throughout. I would rank this as one of my top 5 in this genre.

This writer is new to me but, is very good at writing Sci-Fi. I have read 78 of the books in this
series and they are all very entertaining. I originally thought that these books were a little on the expensive
side for their size but have changed my mind when reminded that if I bought them as they came out the cost
would be very little every two weeks or so. That said If you start reading these and get hooked (and you will) then yes,
it will be a little expensive to buy them all at once so know that up front. Right now I'm looking forwarded to #79.
