About the Author
Leigh Evans was born in Montreal, Quebec but now lives in Southern Ontario. She's raised two kids, mothered four dogs, and herded a few cats. Other than that, her life was fairly routine until the day she decided to write a book about a half-Fae, half-Were girl who's a magnet for trouble. The first Mystwalker novel was grabbed by St. Martins, and released as THE TROUBLE WITH FATE in 2012. Second and third books quickly followed: THE THING ABOUT WERES and THE PROBLEM WITH PROMISES. At the age most people start thinking about retirement, Leigh is slinging words and pummeling plots. Leigh's destiny has finally been met: she's a writer. A little tardy, but then again, her mum always said she was a late bloomer.

Great story in the Mystwalker Realm-and this is possibly the end in the series ..Stay tuned..

This is book 4 in the Mystwalker series. In this book we FINALLY get to see Hedi and Robson working together instead of apart. I enjoyed getting to see them as a unit instead of them being apart. Now, saying that, they aren’t fully together the whole book. (sad face)
In this book Heidi’s twin brother is being held captive by the old mage in another realm. As soon as they arrive in that realm, they are separated BUT they work together. Finally, Heidi accepts all parts of her and owns who and what she was born as
DESTINY takes place mostly in the FAE realm, and is the only book to do so. Not only are there new challenges - they speak a whole “nother” language - but there are new/old enemies and a totally different, completely unfamiliar land and culture as well.

Just to mention, this story picks up about hours after the previous story left off, the author provides just enough back story dusted in so , as the reader, I wasn’t having to go back and re-read. But if you are one of those people who have to wait until a series has a conclusion to go back and read , there isn't SO MUCH back story sprinkled in that it gets old.

Heidi and Robson still have that chemistry that make reading this story wonderful and the fact you know they are *mates*, makes this even better. I just wish that they could spend the WHOLE book together without being separated. I would have given this a 5 star rating if they hadn’t kept separating them. Overall, still a very good paranormal/fantasy read and I will still continue to read the series.

The Danger of Destiny

A woman’s work is never done and destiny has Heidi and Trowbridge in Merenwyn to rescue her twin brother from the Old Mage in this exciting urban fantasy romance.

Heidi and Trowbridge are separated shortly after arriving in Merenwyn and the reader can’t help but get caught up in all the excitement as the epic quest seems to be an unending fight for survival and Heidi decides she’s not going down without a fight – or without her mate. The attraction between Heidi and Trowbridge has gotten steadily stronger throughout the series, so the chemistry in this story burns hotter than ever as Heidi finally accepts parts of herself and her destiny. The strong compelling characters demand reader’s attention from the very beginning and the steady to fast paced plot keeps readers on the edge of anticipation with lots of suspense, action, emotional turmoil, ups and downs and passion.

There is never a dull moment as Merenwyn is full of deadly adversaries including some close to home, unforeseen dangers and malicious traps with spine tingling expectation building as Heidi and Trowbridge get closer to the conclusion of their quest and their success hinges on a wing and a prayer. Heidi’s internal debates with herself, her fae, and her wolf sides adds lots of spice and depth to the story as well as providing some humor while the well written scenes and details bring the story to life and the well planned events draw the reader’s along on Heidi and Trowbridge’s adventures and refuse to let the reader put the book down until they have read every last word.

Or at least that is certainly the case with me as I stayed up all night so I could find out what happened next especially with the surprising twists and turns that kept me on my toes.

Review: The Danger of Destiny

The Danger of Destiny is the fourth title in Ms. Evan’s unique and exciting Mystwalker series. The story wraps up Hedi Peacock’s journey from a small-time thief and barista to a powerful woman and mate of Robison Trowbridge, the Alpha wolf of Creemore. The book opens immediately after the conclusion of the previous book and cannot be read as a stand alone title. Although I needed to jog my memory a few times trying to recall prior events, the author does a good job of working in the necessary details so I wasn’t lost and could enjoy the book.

Hedi Peacock and Robson Trowbridge are in Merenwyn, land of the Fae. Although they were forced through the portal by some unsavory Weres, the couple needed to go in order to save Hedi’s twin, Lexi, who is bonded to the old Mage. Hedi sets forth on her epic quest to rescue her brother and defeat the Black Mage, while Robson also hopes to free the Raha’ells, an enslaved group of Weres trapped in Merenwyn. Although this seems a bit confusing, the story unfolds fairly straight forward and remains gripping throughout the book.

After witnessing Hedi’s character mature in the previous book, I was grateful that she remained strong-willed and smart, while continuing on her journey and developing even more. But she retains so much of what makes her Hedi… her humor and wit remain light and silly. She’s perceptive and knows when to be serious or when to lighten the mood, yet sometimes things just seem to pass her by. She is faithful to those she loves, keeping her focused on those around her, and even causing her to make a few tough decisions. Hedi finally comes to terms with her entire heritage - both the wolf and the fae, dealing with both spirits to give her strength and courage, and a few surprises along the way. The only negative thing I have to say is that she wields her fae magic around as if there were no repercussions, something that definitely could not and would not have happened in earlier books. No explanation was given for her increased ability, and I felt it was a little to convenient at times.

Since the story is told in the first person point-of-view of Hedi, we see everything as she perceives it, and this changed how I felt about both Robson and her brother, Lexi, as Hedi matured and developed a deeper view of her own world. I loved how the author made Lexi so morally ambiguous. It kept Hedi, and this reader, constantly wondering if he was worth redeeming, and even if it was possible. In addition, we see a harder side to Robson as he faces old enemies and takes on his full alpha responsibilities.

Since this is the final book in the series (unless I can convince the author more are needed!), several outstanding issues are tied up, to include Robson and Hedi’s romance, what becomes of Mad-one, and whether or not Robson and Hedi can save the Raha’ells, just to name a few. As the series began, it also concludes, with an imperfect heroine doing her best. She’s come a long way, yet I feel her journey is far from over; however, Ms. Evan’s has ended the series in a good place. There are still several subplots that could be explored, and I for one would welcome additional stories.

In the end, I really enjoyed the Mystwalker series, and The Danger of Destiny is an excellent conclusion. I found the book to be much more straight forward than earlier titles, and I could clearly see the path of the story, while Hedi’s thought process didn’t seem to skip any steps - which had been a small issue with previous books. Even when the author tossed in exciting complications and engrossing twists, I felt it was explained in context so that I was easily able to follow along. I enjoyed Hedi’s journey, and I am completely satisfied with where she finds herself by the end of the book. I also appreciate that not everything is perfect and questions still linger with respect to subplots and supporting characters. If you haven’t started this series, I strongly encourage you to go back to the beginning and discover The Trouble with Fate.

Another of this author's books that I thoroughly enjoyed! Her characters are endearing, as they dream or remember their connections in past lives, and how the past is influencing their present. Beautiful, historical settings, at pivotal times in history, which affect the character's lives & even their deaths. I loved the innovative use of the roundtable discuss....well, I'll leave that as a surprise to those who haven't read the book yet! I've read all three books in the series and highly recommend it to readers that enjoy fiction!

Angel & Quan are Sexxy!

Angelina Marquez is the very much hands on assistant to the many heroes of the Manhattan Ten team. She is the glue that holds everything together and she handles everything from bailing our heroes out of trouble to setting up press releases. She also has powerful memory retention where she is able to recall and retain everything she has every seen. To Angel her perfect memory keeping skills is sometimes a blessing...sometimes a curse but of late, it seems to be more of a curse than anything.

In her story, Angel is sent to LA to recruit a new hero for the team, investigate a possible leak within the LA heroes headquarters and keep one antsy panther out of trouble. Yes, Tequani returns...he is Panther's older brother. He is in the states to visit his brother and sister in law when he gets into a little bit of trouble at LAX airport. Angel is running on little to no sleep when she is sent to LA and she is also stressed out. What she doesn’t need is the distraction of Quan’s sexiness along with everything else that is going on. When someone she thought she could trust betrays her and the heroes...Quan just may be exactly the distraction that Angel needs.

Angel and Tequani were perfect together and I’m happy to see that she finally get her HEA and I've been taken with Quan since we met him in the previous Ten book. This is a wonderfully sweet romance with just about enough sexual tension and superhero action thrown in. I absolutely adore this series and Lola hasn’t steered me wrong with any of her heroes yet. The world and character building as always is expertly done and for a novella length tale, Ms. Dodge doesn’t leave you hanging at all with Angel.

I love the family feel of the heroes in the Manhattan Ten group, how they always have each other back no matter how irritated they may be with each other at the time. Also, Lola has such a wonderful array of characters, its a very diverse world in the MT series and I love that.

If you have a deep love of heroes who are flawed but definitely fierce and sexy, then you will love the Manhattan Ten.

A wild panther shifter loose in the LAX!

Angelina is the babysitter or the manager for the Manhattan Ten with total recall ability. Meaning she never forgets a thing. There is a super hero group for every area like New Orleans and such. And Angelina AKA Angel manages the Manhattan group. They save the humans from paranormal threats.

A hero recruitment program in UCLA goes haywire when she’s sent to retrieve a wild panther shifter in the airport but also has to figure out who is siding with the anti-supers.

This is my first time to read a Manhattan Ten book, so I was surprised to find I totally fell in love with the characters. I’m not only talking about the main characters. This was written in a way that the appropriate reaction is shown for the appropriate character.

Angel is a strong iron-willed woman with a skill that could put a damper on some aspects of a relationship. So I was curious to see the development of the chemistry she had with Quan, the wild panther shifter she rescued in the airport.

Quan is a panther shifter who has literally lived in the jungle until he thought he needed a change and tried to travel without a Visa. He not only gets tangled in conspiracy and but he finds his mate.

Since this is the fourth book I think that Ms. Dodge did a good job providing a lot of background info but I would still say that there was some that was missing. However, for me the highlight was the relationship between Quan and Angel right up until the climax.

The plot was foggy for me at first. The past played such a big role in this but in the end I understood what was going on. I still had some questions that went unanswered. I would suggest for the readers to start from the beginning. This doesn’t mean that this could never be read as a standalone, but to really understand the plot I suggest starting from the first book in this series.

There’s a lot going on in this short story and readers who want action with a heaping helping of the paranormal should check this out for a quick read.

Angel is the story of…well, Angel, who is the super brain of the Manhattan Ten. She’s on her way to a recruitment fair in Los Angeles and she’s investigating the murders of a handful of other superheroes. But then, there’s a situation. Panther’s brother, Quan, has just flow in and caused a scene. Being an expert at dealing with wayward supers, Angel heads to the airport where she manages to tranquilize Quan while he’s in panther form and gets him back to her hotel. Now, not only does she had to worry about the fair and finding who’s behind the murders, she has to babysit. Her powers aren’t exactly being used efficiently.

I thought Angel was a lot of fun! Quan is so great! We got to meet him in Junglecat Honeymoon, and it was nice getting to know him more. Angel assigns him the role of her fake bodyguard, since he’s a large man, and he just eats it up! Of course, the fake bodyguard must eventually become the real bodyguard, since Angel’s big brain leads her right to the person responsible for the missing supers. The two work really well together to bring down the bad guy!

My only disappointment was that there wasn’t enough kissing! Angel really isn’t focused on a romance at all, but I still enjoyed the glimpse that was there. I was just glad that Angel and Quan weren’t suddenly madly in love due to the adrenaline of fighting crime. They are attracted to each other, and their story ends with them in a good place. I certainly hope we get to visit those two in a future novella!

Robin Hood rides again!

The latest book in the Paratime series created by H. Beam Piper and lovingly carried on by John F Carr and friends is the Hos Blethan Affair.

Taking place before the onslaught of Styphon's Grand Host into Hos Hostigos, the story involves a Lord Kalvan idea to pull forces out of said Host by creating havoc in other kingdoms. Sending a team into the southernmost Great Kingdom of Hos Bletha, Kalvin's men recreate the legend of Robin Hood and use that to build forces to overthrow to try and overthrow the despotic king there.

The new team of Carr/Diehr work well and the depth of the book shows it. Tactics, weapons, the character development are alive, new folks are added and old ones see changes that only makes them better. As is usual for this series, one sees good people even on the "bad side" caught by duty and honor to fight for a cause that is less than stellar. This episode was alluded to in earlier Kalvan of Otherwhen books and now we see it fleshed out.

My chief complaint is the one of terrain/distance. Florida is not a place where one can move fast or w/heavy wagons in a period of unimproved roads/trails. As in the other Kalvan books, forces move too fast for reality. Also I seriously doubt that the water table would allow serious dry moat/cellar creation.

But those are minor. Mr Carr had some health issues and got the book out later than promised but the wait was worth it. Reading the other books is not necessary (tho helpful at times) as this one can stand alone quite well.

Congrats on this continuation of a grand series and the creation of a good writing team. It keeps the interest high and stokes the hope for the next one to hurry up!

Down Styphon!

Not a smart move to try to shove a book into the already existing timeline. Buyer, prepare yourself.

While the continuation of the Kalvan series, first by Carr and Green, then Carr alone has been a very pleasurable experience, here with Diehr, there is some backtracking and because of that a good deal of confusion with the writing on occasion. Perhaps because Diehr has added his input into the series.

We jump back a few books from where Carr had last left off and rewrite history because of it. And then without much aid Kalvan sends his team out to do something that is poorly defined hoping for the best. We then see several solutions put into motion. The plots of Robin Hood stolen, Guerrilla Warfare, and the hidden prince pollen, though the ending repercussions clearly change events that we already have read in the three previous books. Heroes here are now stuck in Hos-Bletha when before we knew them to be elsewhere in Kalvan's world, aiding him directly to fight Styphon, especially once Kalvan starts losing and retreats from the East to the middle.

That costs Mr Carr a star in my estimation, and despite several copyeditors a few typos and naming conventions that should have been caught, some on the same page, (A Baron is then made a Count, and then a Duke, and then back to a Baron all within the same page)

This might have worked, but someone didn't think overall how best to do this. Skranga a beloved character who is in charge, ends up twiddling his thumbs for months doing nothing. Skranga if one follows this from the first would never have nothing to do. As do some of the other characters that Carr and Diehr have brought on stage. Sometimes our characters are holding onto the tigers tale but that tiger is dragging them all over the South. Then time scale is another thing not well thought out when our heroes have built a town and planted fields that will be fruitful far too swiftly in the worst time to farm.

The story is a fun read, but Carr crammed the square peg in a round hole and did not think it through far too many times in this tale. One that is not finished in the books that he already had written that cause the calendar to advance by a few years. So what really happens to Hos-Bletha and it's own civil war now in those three books? Do we get 2nd editions of them as well? That I think is something readers of the series need to be aware of, and that Carr needs to address as well.

A fleshed-out side plot in the overall "Lord Kalvan sequels" story arc

This installment in John F. Carr's series of "Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen" sequels covers a side plot to the main story arc following Kalvan and his followers in Hos-Hostigos & Hos-Harphax (later Nos-Hostigos, the Middle Kingdoms, and parts of the northern Great Kingdoms). Kalvan's chief spymaster, Duke Skranga, together with a maverick Hos-Hostigi officer best suited to independent commands, are sent down to Hos-Bletha to cause as much mischief as they can down there, with the aim of preventing Hos-Bletha from contributing any troops to the Grand Host the Styphoni are expected to send against Hos-Hostigos eventually. This book's plot overlaps the events of Kalvan Kingmaker and Siege of Tarr-Hostigos (or is it Fall of Tarr-Hostigos? I've read both the novella and full-novel-size versions of this, and I tend to get their titles mixed up), with the insurrectionists in Hos-Bletha out of contact with Hos-Hostigos -- so this book has a fairly successful conclusion (but with the looming disaster coming to Hos-Hostigos lurking just offstage, for those who have read those other books).
I enjoyed this installment of the "Lord Kalvan sequels" series, although what I would really like to see would be a sequel (or 2 at the most) which would bring the overall plotline to a (hopefully) triumphant conclusion, with the "good guys" winning, the exiled Hostigi at least having the option to return to the old Hos-Hostigos and rebuild, and all of the side plots in various parts of the Great Kingdoms & Middle Kingdoms both communicating with the main plot and winding up themselves. The copy-editing seems somewhat improved in this volume from that in previous "Lord Kalvan" sequels (although I still think Mr. Carr could still use the services of a proper copy editor for all of these books, just to clean up the grammar & punctuation). An exciting treat for fans of this series!

An Entertaining and Magical Story to Delight the Reader Seeking an HEA!

From the first paragraph I knew Barbara Monajem was going to charm the socks off me with her honest-to-goodness hobgoblin. Hobgoblins go by other names so you may know of them as imp, goblin, gremlin, pixie, well you get the picture. Most people can’t see hobgoblins, but Lord Fenimore Trent has one hanging around his home. Hobgoblins can be difficult. You need to remember to always be polite and never, EVER give it something and then take it back. That is, if you care to keep any sort of order in your life!

From the first, I appreciated Lord Fen’s work ethic and desire to keep himself busy as a furniture maker. You see, he had a bit of magic in him that necessitated such an occupation. I’ll let Fen tell his story himself, but suffice it to say, it was best for him and those around that he made beautiful furniture. His father was embarrassed at his trade. After all, he was the son of a Marquis, Marquis of Overwood to be exact.

Fen’s furniture partner, Harry Wellcome, got himself in a bit of trouble and Lord Fen was determined to get him. At the same time, his past love of five years previous was planning on getting married to Lord Slough (such an appropriate name!) whom Lord Fen suspected involved in some unsavory business, possibly traitorous to his country.

I enjoyed character Andromeda Gibbons, a woman full of imagination, nerve, bravery and intelligence. She was also still half in love with Lord Fenimore whom she hated (?!?!?!), but he had dumped her for no reason some five years earlier. That’s when she decided to be the perfect lady, so perfect she eventually began hating who she had become, the fiancée to Earl of Slough. But the saying holds true, you can’t change the spots on a leopard. Underneath all that ladyship, she was some woman!

Andromeda’s mother believed in magic and shares that part of her with Andromeda before she died when Andromeda was young. She gave her a locket telling her if she needed desperately help the locket would provide it. After her mother died, her aunt and father had pretty much erased those memories from Andromeda. Can Andomeda regain her belief in magic in time to save herself from certain death?

The hobgoblin stole my heart. Harry Wellcome was full of surprises and quite the character. Lord Slough was truly wonderful to hate. The cast of characters was entertaining, creating magic, suspense and romance as Ms. Monajem's stories all provide!.

The moral of this story seems to be don’t be in a hurry to believe bad things about what people say about someone you know and trust, even when the confidante is your closest friend.

Loved this story from Barbara Monagem with its magic and paranormal happenings nestled in a Regency setting.

Lord Fenimore is happy with what he is doing

Lord Fenimore is happy with what he is doing. His business is brisk for a gentleman turned tradesman. He is a furniture maker. And he is very good at it! His father, however, sees things differently. He does not accept that his son wants to stay in trade. He doesn't understand Fen's love of working. I think he is offended by it!
Fen's Partner, Mr. Wellcome has been accused of treason and transporting spies into England. Fen knows this is not true and sets out to find out who is actually doing these things. They figure out that the person must be of noble birth and well known in the ton. They both have a suspect in mind and decide to start watching him. Mr. Wellcome, disguised as a footman, and Fen go to a ball to watch him. Unfortunately, the woman who broke Fen's heart just so happens to be this man's fiance. The man is Lord Slough and his betrothed, Fen's childhood friend, Andromeda Gibbons.
Fen and Andromeda both shared something that no one else, except Andromeda's mother, understood or believed. They used magic. They could both see the hobgoblins running around and they both knew true magic. Andromeda's mother had fairy blood. Her father never believed or tried to believe. After her mother's death, her father and aunt persuaded her that it was not real and she lost her magic. And she lost Fen, by the word of what he thought was a friend.
Now they meet again in a crowded ballroom, indifferent acquaintances only, she is rude and snubs him, but seeing him makes her realize that her life isn't going where she wants it to. She decides to go a sit quietly to think things out, finding an empty sitting room, she relaxes. Unfortunately someone is coming just as she is leaving, she must hide for she recognizes the voice of the man, it is Lord Slough. She hides behind the drapes and waits. Only to hear an assignation with a Frenchman who was hiding on the terrace. She finds out Lord Slough is a spy!
But who to go to? She knows no one will believe a woman. They will say she is hysterical and just wants to end the betrothal. True but beside the point. The only person she knows that will believe her is Fen. Luckily she knows where he has his shop, she just hopes he lives over the shop or comes to work early. Can he help her figure out what to do next?
This story is full of magic, a bit of romance, mystery and intrigue! I truly enjoyed the characters. And the touches of magic. It was a quick read for me, mostly because I couldn't put it down! Fantastic writing and wonderful scene descriptions made me feel like I was there! I highly recommend this book and this author!

I was given a complimentary copy from the author for an hones review. This book is really intriguing. It kept me guessing the entire time. I loved the paranormal aspect to this story. I love historical romances but add in the paranormal aspect and it is perfect. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This was an excellent offering from a first time author

This was an excellent offering from a first time author. The editing was impeccable and the story engaging. I found myself drawn into the character's worlds, but in particular I found Barnabas fascinating. Mr. Foote presents an interesting world rife with intrigue, maneuverings, and outright warfare between the forces of heaven and hell, with Barnabas and Kalyndriel caught squarely between them.

You won't be disappointed if you pick this up.

This was a riveting story and I enjoyed it greatly! Characters are multi-faceted and engaging. Scenes are set monumentally, yet are cerebral. My first Kindle experience (there were some typos) - I'm not a convert...yet. That not withstanding, this is a different twist on Heaven and Hell and what defines right and wrong or good and bad. In this rendition, those definitions are blurred and that is what makes these characters so engaging. Great read!!

From a first time author I wasn't expecting much to be honest but I couldn't put this book down! Made me laugh and made me ponder life and death. The author really makes the characters come to life and I was curious to see how each of their stories ended. I hope that the author is just beginning and there will be more books from him
