I used to love the genre

I haven't read Sci-Fi in a long long time. I used to love the genre, but I have drifted away from it.
Upon receiving this book for an honest review (all opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way), I immediately dove in. I have been needing something to occupy my mind.
This book is so very intriguing. I couldn't put it down! I was a little confused at first, because I have not read the first one yet, but believe me I will be purchasing it in order to catch up on what I have missed! Even though I haven't read the first book though, I feel that the author fills you in on enough of the story line, that you can still follow this book, without reading the first one.
The characters are interesting and intriguing as well as the story line. The author brings the characters to life, and if you take the time to sit down and read this, you will find yourself lost in time with them. You will feel their emotions because it is written so well. You will be able to let your imagination run wild while reading, and sympathize for those who are in pain. You will feel like you are a part of the story.

I feel like I can connect with the characters on a different level. They are so like-able, and realistic. The dialogue is well written, I give the author kudos for that. I don't feel like I am reading when I was into this book. I felt like I was an actual character and part of the storyline. I cannot wait to see if there is a third one!

I don't want to give anything away, but I highly suggest you read this book, and the first one (I know I'm going to very soon!!)

Love this saga!

Solaris Seeks is a young adult sci-fi novel, but is enjoyable for adults as well. After losing Brie, a member of their crew in the first book of the saga, Rynah and the team are back in order to obtain the last crystals before Klanor does. In order to understand this novel, you should read Solaris Seethes first. I love the first book and this second book does not disappoint.

This novel is very well written and enticing. There is never a dull moment in this novel or the previous one. Janet McNulty takes you on a wild ride through space capturing every moment of the Rynah vs. Klanor race to get the remaining crystals. The author even throws in a twist at the end making it hard to wait for the next book. In the end, the tables have turned and the bad guy is now someone unexpected while Klanor has become softer and recognizes his feelings he had and still has for Rynah. In my opinion, the only thing this author could do to make this book better is to get the next book out sooner because I am impatient. Every bit of this novel captivates me and I am not a young adult so I would recommend this to anyone who loves sci-fi. McNulty never disappoints and she has made me turn into a lover of sci-fi which I hadn’t delved into before.

VERY VERY EXCELENT!

I was really intrigued by this book. I haven't read a book in the Science Fiction genre for a while but the story line really kept me caught up in it. It was hard to put down at some points. I did end up purchasing book 1 so that I could get a better feel for this book and this one left off right where the other one ended so there was no unanswered questions or gaps in the story line. There's a great deal of action and adventure in this book and the characters are unique as well. The lead in this store was female which was actually quite refreshing since most stories in this genre are led by males. I would definitely recommend this book for anything interested in the Science Fiction genre. I would also say this is more centered to teens and young adults of both sexes (but as I stated before the female lead is pretty awesome and makes it very refreshing compared to others I have read) I can't wait for the next book to come out so I can add that to my reading list. Enjoy your purchase of this book. It won't disappoint!

Not sure

I am not sure if this series is worth the effort to continue reading. Even though it was well written and the story line was going well; I felt like I was not getting enough information in what was written. In a way I felt like I was being cheated by what was not written.
If a person wished to finish the series and did not have Kindle Unlimited, the person would have to spend about $2.00 dollars for maybe 20 pages. So not worth the money then!

Ends in the middle

I enjoyed the book as far as it went, but had not realized it was so short. It felt as though the book had ended before it got to the end, if that makes any sense.

I understand there are sequels, available for additional payments, but I was disappointed that this one was so short and ended so abruptly.

When I started reading it and realized it was just ...

When I started reading it and realized it was just a "teaser" and looked into what is what going to take to complete the story and realized I was going to have to buy it in "bits and pieces," I didn't even bother getting into it any further. I guess it's different for me when you are actually reading whole books as parts of a series but when you are reading a few chapters at a time and then waiting for more, it's really not worth the effort. Sorry...maybe when this whole "book=series" is written I'll revisit it and change my review at that time.

Good Story, Fast Pace & Interesting

This book was enjoyable to read, with lots of action, multiple scenerio's and four main characters, although two were not developed to the extent of Gitty & Elgin. Nevertheless, this story is about a lonely man who sets out to discover what 'Lost Angeles' is all about, in hopes of finding a new and exciting life. His journey provides him with plenty of danger, sorrow, hope, love and happiness. This story depicts one man's innocence and timidity against the world. A man who's heart is big, and many times, his morals and values righteous.

The setting is at least 10 years into a post-apocalyptic event. We don't know what happened, but it doesn't matter and the lack of that knowledge will not take away from the story line. I found myself cheering for Elgin and hoping for the best for him. The author does a great job in presentation and conveying a story with lessons, if one is willing to look that deep into it. The author also did a great job in placing Elgin 'into character' and depicting him for who he was.

This book is a nice read.

A Post Apocalyptic Love Story

Elgin is the narrator in 600 Miles and he is on a journey from Arizona to California hoping to take in the city of Los Angeles in the process and his main problem is that he is walking there because the story is set several decades into the future in a world of complete chaos. The cause of the apocalypse is hinted at and appears to have been all out war between the state and the people but this all happened years ago; Elgin only knows a hand to mouth existence in a world which has sunk to basest depravity and his frequent dispassionate observations of "skellies" tells you how bad things are.
The story is Elgin's life over the several months of his journey; the places he passes through; the people he meets. It is a love story in the most unlikely of circumstances and an exploration of Elgin's personality as he tries to cope with the tribulations and challenges of survival. The story is full of unexpected developments and at times is tense, exciting and shocking. It is a well written novel but what I thought was exceptionally good was the way Elgin's voice comes through with a slow deliberation resonant of a time much earlier than the Armageddon.
The ending of the book is, I suspect, deliberately vague and lends itself to a sequel which I for one would be quick to download.

Realistic

600 miles by G.P. Grewal is one of the most realistic dystopian novels I have read. The setting is harsh with a sense of hopelessness. The plot and pace are spot on and keep the reader turning pages. All of the characters are well developed and three-dimensional.

Grewal tells the story through the protagonist, Elgin. He is a kind of every man, not heroic in fact a bit cowardly, but you can't help rooting for him despite his flaws. Grewal gave him such a unique voice and he tells the story in such a way that the reader becomes emotionally invested in him. A writer that can make the reader feel any emotion is a good writer and G.P. Grewal is that good of writer.

The one shortcoming of the story and it's rather significant, it's the ending. The ending of the story is rather disjointed and ambiguous which left this reader a bit disappointed.

Do I recommend 600 miles to others? Yes with a caveat. I recommend it because the story was good enough to emotionally draw me into it, quite a rarity these days. The caveat is the ambiguous ending, it may leave some readers unsatisfied.

Major Disappointment compared to Authors other books!

Rented through Kindle Unlimited. After reading The Dragons Champion series by these authors I was looking forward to this series as well, I found this to be a major disappointment! Tedious fight scene after tedious fight scene with a very small bit of story. How many times do you want to read about another kick to the groin? Talon is a truly horrible character, and I just want him to die. The major characters fighting abilities aren't believable. Read any other books by these authors, but I wasted my time with this book. Note to Authors, you nock an arrow, if you string a bow you are attaching the actual bowstring.

Excellent mystery/horror stories

This is a group of mostly newer detective stories. But these aren't your average private eyes; these people del in the supernatural and occult.
Among the authors represented are Clive Barker, William Hope Hodgson, Manly Wade Wellman, Neil Gaiman, Brian Lumley and Basil Copper. In seventh century Ireland, a rural innkeeper and his wife are being terrorized by unnatural noises. A story set in rural England early in the 1900s has a wonderful title, "The Adventure of the Crawling Horror." What looks like a grandfather clock with four hands, and strange symbols where the numbers should be, actually has a much more hellish purpose. Another story has to do with John Wayne supposedly being buried in a pink dress. Kim Newman contributes a multi-part short novel about a fist-sized ruby with the power to destroy mankind.
I am not much of a mystery or supernatural reader, but I really enjoyed these stories. They work as detective stories, and the occult part is sufficiently strange. This is well worth reading.

Another winning Stephen Jones anthology

Although all the stories collected here involve the same subject, psychic detectives, they are diverse in mood and storytelling. Even if you've read any of these stories before, as I have, it's best to read this collection from cover to cover as a whole. There is also some great stuff here that I'd never heard of before like the Brian Mooney and Jay Russell tales. The whole book is weird fiction, and some of it is quite dark, but Jones places the comic relief at just the right moments. I only wish he would have included one of Seabury Quinn's Jules de Grandin stories; most of which have never been reprinted since their original publication in Weird Tales. Newman's wraparound story alone is worth the price, simply because, like so many great British authors, most of his work hasn't seen U.S. print.

Super supernatural adventures

Another splendid anthology from Stephen Jones, this time presenting a chronological collection of detective stories with a supernatural bent ranging from Peter Tremayne's Sister Fidelma through to Clive Barker's Harry D'Amour, with stories by Basil Copper, Ron Chetwynd-Hayes and Jay Russell amongst others along the way. Tying the whole thing together is a serial by Kim Newman - 'The Seven Stars', episodes of which are interposed between the other stories in this collection. Anyone who likes the idea of noirish detective stories embroiled in the murky world of old books, mystical incantations and large unpleasant slimy things living at the bottom of pits will love this. I certainly did.

Resilience is a powerful gift for each of us

Eric Greitens certainly understands what it means to face challenges. In Resilience, he shares details of the frontlines that he has faced as a man, a humanitarian, a Navy SEAL, and as a leader. Yet, the true gift in this book is the humility with which it is written. We all have frontlines, he explains. Eric expertly navigates each of us through our own frontlines, whether it is found in a difficult job, a strained relationship, a search for meaning in life, or the frontlines of war.

My own frontline was in the mountains of Afghanistan just a few short months ago. During the challenging deployment, I faced continual threats. These experiences began to take a very heavy toll on me. After many months of facing these challenges and with no end in sight, I allowed myself to lose hope that I would ever make it home. However, it was during this difficult time in my life that I called upon the lessons that I had previously pulled from another of Greitens’ books, The Heart and the Fist. In that book, he explained the great potential for our perspective to help us to overcome hardships. During those long, seemingly endless nights in Afghanistan, I kept those lessons very close to me to find a reservoir of strength within me that I had never knew existed.

I’m proud to have now returned home safely from the deployment and finding this book at this time in my life is a true gift. Although my frontlines are now different, I continue to face new challenges. There are other returning veterans just like me, facing similar challenges in their reintegration to civilian life. Zach Walker is one of those veterans. In Greitens’ letters to Walker throughout this book, I have found the book's true value. Instead of merely reading correspondence between two friends, this book feels as though it is written to me: encouraging me, inspiring me and challenging me to strengthen my inner resilience to overcome hardships on my new frontlines. In that way, this book is written to each of us.

It doesn’t matter the source of your challenges in life, this book is an outstanding gift for each of us at facing challenges, overcoming hardships, and finding our own inner resilience.

SOME DEEP THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed one of Eric Greiten's other books, "The heart and the fist" so I was looking forward to this book. This book takes a different turn, he is helping a friend through letters. This book covers his replies to those letters as he tries to help his friend out. I was not too crazy about that format, but he really does get the topics across well. The book is very well written and it goes pretty deep. There were more than a few times while reading this book where I had to put it down and think about it for a while. Some of the writing hit pretty close to home and directly relating to my life, and the lives of some of my friends. To paraphrase the books description this really is a hopeful book letting us know that we all have problems, but we can all overcome those those problems. Being resilient we can work on those problems and bounce back.

After reading two of his books I really get the feeling that this world is a better place with Eric Greitens in it. He really comes across as a person trying to make things better.

Don't ask me to choose a favorite part - I really liked it all

"Resilience" is about two Navy SEALs who are writing letters back and forth; Eric is trying to help his struggling friend, Drew.

What I most liked about Resilience is how the topics discussed - from defining resilience, happiness, identity, your responsibilities and philosophy to the need for a role model and practicing (following your models, breaking your habits and pursuing who you want to be) - are personal and specific to the SEALs, yet easy to apply to whatever challenge you're facing as a reader. The tone of the book is perfect and I loved it: It's strong and firm, yet compassionate, understanding, and hopeful (no excuses or giving up allowed, but also no condescension or judgment). Best of all, there is no "one-size fits all" strategy. The author repeatedly reminds his friend Drew, and the reader, that each person must find his or her own plan and follow it - what we're reading are suggestions and wisdoms, stories of overcoming from people who have gone through tough times, ideas that have worked for others - but ultimately, what will work for you only you can decide.

I also very much enjoyed how Eric used examples from history (Isaac Newton, several different authors, warriors, philosophers) to illustrate various concepts. The author made his many ideas - on life and how to live it in the wisest and best way a person can - interesting, thoughtful, engaging and memorable. As I was reading, I kept thinking of people I wanted to share parts of the book with. I'd read a thought, idea or quote and think, "I need to write this down!" But then I'd read the next thought or example and I liked so much of the book I couldn't write down all the parts I enjoyed - I'll just have to give a copy of the book to my friends and family who need it the most.

A very satisfying romp through the imagination of Donovan Neal...

I think what makes Donovan Neal's writing so unique, is his ability to take scripture, early Hebrew writings and folklore and put them together in a thrilling plausible story written from a heavenly viewpoint. Handling time and theological mystery with aplomb, he gives us a glance into what an angel might view and feel.

I love the personalities and attributes of the different types of angels and the explanation of the ongoing war between Heaven and Satan's fallen angels. This was a fun read and in no way should we look at this book as revelation or scripture, though its contents are loosely based on scripture. As stated by the author this is speculative Christian fiction. You can't help but wonder at the things we cannot see and the longing in our hearts for the unknown back-story that frames the history of mankind. We know that God loves us, and yet to trust Him sometimes is so hard. We see the same problem with many of the angels in this story.

The character of Enoch is also very interesting and knowing the Old Testament we know that he did not die as other men but was brought to heaven because of his close walk with God. In this book he is given life and character. If he is anything like he is portrayed in this book I can see why God took him without death.

All in all this was a very satisfying romp through the imagination and story telling prowess of Mr. Donovan Neal. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys Christian Speculative Fiction. It is a real treat to look at heaven from a different viewpoint and let your imagination go! I am eagerly awaiting the third book of the series.

what an exciting ride!

This book was even better than the first, and had me sucked in from the very first chapter! The characters of angels were believable, intriguing, and sympathetic. I loved how throughout the book the author was able to follow much of the old testament, but still make it a wonderful, stand alone story. I also like the author's to the point, yet fun style of writing that made the book highly readable. I'd recommend this book to anyone Christian or non-christian. This is the best book I've read in years.

This book was so different from what I expected. I totally enjoyed this book. Reading this book felt like a walk through the Bible through the eyes of Angels. Mr. Neal has written a book which will tug on hearts and intrigue the mind with the vivid imagery of his story telling.
