Are the darkest among us born this way? Or did something make them that way? If something made them that way, what could it have been? Wilting souls’ saga will show you the metamorphosis of people as they become beings of pure darkness. “Wanting love, happiness, and peace of mind, I think you’re asking for too much,” said the Universe to anyone who ever wanted to keep their soul. Lord General Bandares is the most powerful Ground Assault General in the Adrasteia Empire, known for being vengeful and utterly ruthless. For months and even cycles on end he's been having premonitions that his only son Nairn would suffer a fate far worse than death. Unable to peg this feeling on any foreseeable event, he chose to watch and wait for something more tangible to act on than a bad dream. When the Emperor and Empress of Adrasteia order him not to leave Adrasteia binary system and to procreate with seven powerful new troops arriving from the Heka moon-worlds, he knew right away his premonitions were true, and that his son’s fate was somehow already sealed. From what he could surmise, they were trying to prevent him from doing anything to intercede, trapping him with Imperial rules that mandate a father’s duty to mother and child. A month later, six of the seven women who'd come to him with the same order to have his children were now with child. During this time, he'd begun to take a liking to one of the woman named Takumbo. With his dreams becoming more gruesome and vivid as the days passed, yet identifying no clear enemy that could harm his son, he decided to ask the Emperor and Empress what they were hiding. Receiving a twisted answer about fates sometime being intertwined and sometimes not, he could stand idle no more and decides to leave Adrasteia binary system in search of a way to protect his son. But he doesn't want to leave without passing down an important message to his unborn children. So as his sphere of nano material rises into the void, he leaves his memories with Takumbo...And this is when the story of Wilting Souls truly begins.

but I thoroughly enjoy this story
By Terry Stimpson
I’m not a devoted sci-fi guy, but I thoroughly enjoy this story. While it is certainly an awesome, futuristic universe Chandler protrays here, the archetypal creatures spring from our Garden of Eden. The plot’s twists and turns and the fascinating, weird characters make for a very entertaining read. I read it in two sittings and three lattes. I was interrupted by a boring wedding of two friends, who would have been better off reading "Wilting Souls".

Across the United States, children are vanishing. Only this time, faeries may not be to blame …

Dante, Regent of the fae's Rogue Court, has been receiving disturbing reports. Human children are manifesting magical powers in record numbers. Shunned and forgotten, they live on the streets in ragtag groups with the already-booming population of homeless changelings. But the streets aren't a haven; someone, or something, is hunting these children down.

Wraith, a teenage spell slinger, has no home, no family, and no real memories of her past. She and her friends SK, Fritz, and Shadow are constantly on the run, fleeing from a dark and unknown enemy. But when her companions are taken by "the snatchers," Wraith is their only hope. Her journey to find them will test the limits of her magic—and her trust. A dark force is on the rise, and it could spell the end of our world as we know it.

Review
“I get the very strong feeling that O’Connell is leading us somewhere as yet unrevealed with The Forgotten and The Stolen. The characters from these two novels are interconnected for a reason and I’m looking forward to seeing where he takes us in the fabulous series.” (The Qwillery on THE FORGOTTEN)

“The Forgotten’s imaginative world, unique characters, and action-packed storyline had me hooked. I would definitely recommend this and I’m looking forward to reading more stories by O’Connell in the future. ” (Addicted 2 Heroines on THE FORGOTTEN)

Characters were beautifully drawn, however
By Shasta
After The Taken, I guess I was expecting something different. This book was difficult to follow, and the ugliness when I figured things out was a little hard to take. Characters were beautifully drawn, however, with the good guys admirable and likable. I really missed Brandon from the first book and was glad to see him remembered. A better editing job would have helped, and an attempt to make sure the plot strands were clear. That doesn't mean I won't look forward to and buy the third in the series, however.

Thrilling sophomore novel!
By Amazon Customer
This sequel to Bishop O'Connell's The Stolen expands on the premise of the original by dialing the action up to eleven. Featuring part of the cast from the previous book, this one introduces a new protagonist that takes center stage in a hidden, magical war on the streets of Seattle.

Though there is some confusion at points, it is mostly due to the main character's memory issues. The plot threads are also woven much more tightly this time around, and converge, rather than diverge, into a thrilling and explosive climax.

If you liked the first book even a little bit, you'll love this one. And with the promise of more to come, I can't wait to see where this series heads.

fantastic sequel to The Stolen
By Joanna Watson
I was captivated from the previous tale which gives us a glimpse of a world which we dream about as children. This chapter allows us a bit farther into the potential darkness in the war of good versus evil, on a level that appeals to my inner child, but explores the potential darker side of humanity through the seedy, back alleyways and homelessness. I cannot wait for the next installment. *Thanks mom, for giving me the first book.

The Ring of Kerry Hannigan: a Novella, by Ciji Ware

The Ring of Kerry Hannigan - a Novella by New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Ciji Ware
(The First Edition was published in July, 2014, as part of an anthology of three short novels titled Ring of Truth. This Second Edition of "The Ring of Kerry Hannigan" is a stand-alone novella, published in March, 2015).

When your heart speaks…will you listen?

On the eve of a move from New York to San Francisco, classically trained chef and respected food blogger Kerry Hannigan’s world turns upside down the instant she puts on an Irish Claddagh ring—the timeless Irish symbol of love, friendship and fidelity worn not only by Jackie Kennedy and Princess Grace, but by scores of citizens and firefighters who fought their last battle in New York’s Twin Towers on 9/11.
A gift from her godmother, the emerald gemstone clasped between two golden hands reputedly offers life-changing guidance and counsel—but only for seven days, and only to those who listen.

Is it serendipity—or something else—when Kerry lands her dream job among groves of the Montisi Olive Ranch in beautiful Sonoma, north of San Francisco? And is one week long enough to know if Renato Montisi is all he appears to be, or another “player” like the man she left behind? Can she trust the ring on her finger, or is it just so much “Irish hooey,” as her late cousin insisted before she died?

PRAISE for Ciji Ware’s novella:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Barbara Freethy writes that Ring of Truth “oozes magic and romance.”

New York Times bestseller Mary Alice Monroe describes the novellas as “compelling and beautifully written.”

This is the first book of a compelling trilogy about three accomplished women, whose careers were on track and successful, but their private lives were empty for different reasons. Enter the very special Claddagh ring possessing magic powers that will help these women sort through and deal with their fears and issues and point them in the right direction toward their own truth and their true love. Kerry Hannigan is clearly in the wrong relationship, but doesn't realize it until she moves across the country from New York to San Francisco. And, through a series of circumstances she finds the right relationship and right working situation. Being a foodie and loving the San Francisco Bay Area and North Bay and the wonderful olive oil made in the Napa and Sonoma Valley, this book takes me to all my favorite places. It is very well written as all of Ciji Ware's book are! You will enjoy this story if you like her work or even if you do not know her work..

and minds in love and other emotions
By Beth L. Bristow
This is my second review, apparently the first one went by the wayside. I wrote that "I read and re-read the book. As a counselor working with people who are afraid to trust their hearts, and minds in love and other emotions, I found a remarkable recipe in this book to share with them, read it to find out what the recipe is, and trust me, it works! The Ring of Kerry Hannigan is a collection of three stories, similar because of the Ring, and different due to the characters and their lives. You will enjoy reading this book and likely will re-read it; it's that good!

I would absolutely recommend this book for a quick escape to the beautiful ...
By Dawn
I would absolutely recommend this book for a quick escape to the beautiful California countryside of fragrant olive trees and delectable gastronomy. Here a lovely romance takes place after our heroine is unceremoniously dumped by her jerk boyfriend. We so want her to win in the end... and the book keeps you on edge wondering if this will actually happen as several events make it quite unpredictable. I couldn't put the book down! In the end we see that when you trust that inner voice and follow it's direction life has a way of taking you in directions you might never have imagined.
Ciji Ware has produced yet another excellent story with good research and brilliant character insights.

This episode was definitely a fun and witty read
By Barbara
This episode was definitely a fun and witty read. I found myself laughing out loud on several occasions. The author has a very unique way of letting his characters move in and out of their dangers without resorting to the hack and slash pastiche. Very cleverly written. I’m eagerly awaiting the next episode.

The Usurper (Telnarian Histories), by John Norman

The fourth volume in John Norman's epic Telnarian Histories describes the continuing rise to power of an unsung warrior thrown into the maelstrom of ambition, treachery, and violence that is the galactic empire When Filene, a former noblewoman masquerading as a slave, attempts to assassinate the ascendant tribal king, Ottonius, she fails and becomes fully enslaved. The story of her education in proper submission is told in counterpoint to the tale of the powerful but primitive warrior who finds himself drawn into intrigues affecting the destiny of a threatened and crumbling empire. This ambitious novel, written on an interstellar scale, follows the latest adventures of a man who has fought and killed his way out of obscurity to become a newly crowned king. As events unfold, he finds himself on a bloody and violent path that may lead to the imperial throne itself.

Gorean themed space opera with fantasy influences . . . fun, intriguing stuff
By Bob Milne
A little over 20 years ago John Norman stepped outside the world (if not the themes) of Gor and delivered a trilogy entitled the Telnarian Histories. Whereas the Gor novels were primarily fantasy epics tinged with science fiction elements, this new trilogy flipped that around, being more of a traditional space opera with fantasy influences.

In terms of narrative, little has changed over the years, with The Usurper having the same sense of style that fans have become used to, but which may unsettle a new reader. Expository prose is often long and blocky, with descriptions that can stretch into a second page without a paragraph break, and the amount of detail surrounding the physical, mental, emotional, and psychological realities of slavery is often exhausting. That's not to say it isn't fascinating, or sometimes necessary to the plot, but it may take some readers deeper into a submissive mindset than they're comfortable with. Dialogue is often very formal, carefully structured and delivered as if for an audience, with little of the casual banter we so often expect of the genre. Again, that's not a flaw or a complaint, just an observation on what makes Norman's writing unique. Overall, however, the prose here is stronger and more polished than what fans may be used to, with phrases like "the airless, lonely, nigh-vacant deserts between world" having an almost poetic quality to them.

The world-building is exceptionally strong here, as it was in the Gor saga, with a fully realized history of conquest and rebellion. Culturally, there are significant Greco-Roman influences to the story, but there's also a bit of a Conan-esque flavor to Ottonius, the barbarian King. It's really with the philosophies of sadomasochism and the spirituality of submission that the story comes alive. However, in an era where BDSM has very much become a part of pop-culture, Norman's ideas are hardly as shocking or taboo as they once were. That's something of a double-edged sword for the Telnarian Histories, as the novelty (and some of the attraction) for old fans is gone, while new fans demand something more than mere taboo titillation. It's a cultural shift that has forced Norman to focus more of his attention on the storyline and the characters, with The Usurper being one of his strongest, most complete tales yet.

This is a book that's heavy on the history and the cultural composition of the world, with a mysterious narrator often acting in the role of teacher or advisor to the reader. Part of that is necessary to allow new readers to catch up on what's gone before, but part of it is also deliberate world building. As for our hero, Ottonius, he has grown and evolved significantly from what I remember. Instead of the cold prototypical Norman protagonist, he has acquired some of the rough-edged charm and black humor common to pulp adventure heroes like Conan. Filene is a remarkable character as well, perhaps the most well-developed female character Norman has written. She begins the story masquerading as a slave, in order to get close and assassinate Ottonius, but we also get glimpses of the free woman behind the mask. Of course, she's very quickly found out, turning that masquerade into a reality, but she retains a spark of personality that only grows brighter as the tale continues.

There's more of conflict to The Usurper than I remember from any of the Gor novels as well, which is sure to appeal to fans of more militaristic science fiction and fantasy. Alien technology, starships, blockades, sieges, and battles dominate much of the second half of the book. This is very much Otto's tale and Otto's conflict, with him at the center of it all, but we do get a much wider view of the war and how it impacts the characters around him. There are some long, slow periods of prose before we get to the conflict, and Norman still interrupts the action to share the insights of slaves and masters on their role in the battle, but overall I found this to have a much faster paced story, with a better balance of plot and philosophy. Politically, it's a sharper tale as well, with great attention devoted to the affairs of rulers and captains, which helps bring it all together.

If you've ever found yourself curious about John Norman's work, then The Usurper is a great place to begin. Even though it's the fourth book of the Telnarian Histories, it can still be read as a standalone title, which is almost necessary with a 20 year gap. If, like myself, you always saw this saga as a weaker sort of cousin to the Gor novels, then you're likely to be pleasantly surprised. However, if you're deeply offended by his social philosophies or his depiction of women, and aren't interested in the 'how' and 'why' of his world . . . well, this isn't going to change your mind.

Intense storyline with deep characterization
By Michele Douglas
“The Usurper”
(Telnarian Histories)
John Norman

This is the fourth book in the Telnarian series where we continue to see the transformation of Ottonius, everyone’s beloved barbarian warrior. He may now be leader of his own people, but it clear that others fear him; especially those of the Empire. The Empire sends a free woman disguised as a slave to assassinate him. When she does not succeed, Captain Ottonius realizes that he must find the persons responsible for sending the assassin. Along with his most trusted advisors, he leaves his home on a journey to discover his heritage and uncover the power he possesses that can affect the empire.

Filene, a formal noble woman, currently a free woman is sent on a mission to kill Ottonius the tribal King. She is provided the knife and the cover. She enters the camp disguised as a slave and attempts to use her feminine wiles to attract Ottonius for him to take her to his tent. When he falls for the trap, she is thrust into his tent to await his arrival. She is nervous and excited all at once. When he enters, she is unaware that he is already on to her and is playing along to see what happens. He locates the knife she had stashed and sends her to be turned into a true slave, stripped of her freedom as easily as she is stripped of her clothing.

My thoughts:

At first, I had a problem getting through the book because I wanted more dialogue and less history lessons. However, I understand now that the history is necessary, because it reminds the reader about a character or situation that may have happened in another book or time. This helps to center the reader, rather than leaving them trying to remember this or that character or circumstance.

Regarding the story, I like Ottonius. Regardless of what his role is in society, he is first and foremost a barbarian and he never apologizes for it. He sees that barbarism can be found in the form of shield and sword, or in the form of treachery and corruption. He is used to one on one combat, not backstabbing, but he eventually discovers that the way to prevent corruption is to throw yourself into the path of it.

As a woman, I had issues with the way they referred to the free women and mostly the slaves. Then, I thought about what I believe the author may be trying to convey. To me it seems as though the free women were the ones that were confined. They were slaves to their culture, looking and acting a certain way, watching how they speak and to whom, etc.

The slave women had the most freedom even while sitting naked with collars on at the feet of the men. The slave women were celebrated for their femininity. The men coveted and protected their slaves more so than any free women. The women were exposed naked to the world that they lived in. They had nothing to hide and could be themselves. They could accept and embrace their sexual, sensual sides without fear of being judged.
I enjoyed the way the author never left any stone unturned. Each character had his or her role to play in the plot of the story. I don’t remember any characters that were introduced but not played out. In the end, everything made sense to me. The storyline was wrapped up nicely and left with an opening, of course, for what the next book might be about, if there is to be one.

I would say if it is too hard for the reader to get past at what first appears as the degradation of the slaves, then this is probably not the book for you. However, if you, like myself, can see past that, you are in for an excellent story with deep characterization.

A Masterful Job of World-Building
By Joe Dacy
In this second installment of the Clarity series, Watch-holder Ren Grant has escaped the clutches of a dystopian Earth’s Union. Now she’s on her way to an ice-bound planet in another galaxy under the control of Clarity’s frantic and untrustworthy Captain.

Building a complete (and credible) new alien world is a daunting task for any SF writer but Anna Herlihy makes it look easy. Add to that a complex tale of political conniving, shifting and conflicting allegiances, an intriguing culture and the constant threat from environmental dangers and you have a story that begs to be read.

You must acquire the first book, The Watch, before diving into this one. At its end the only disappointment you’ll experience will be the wait for the next one!

Must read for Dark Dragon Kings Fans
By pw reader
Night's Blaze: Part 4 bring to a satisfying conclusion the dilemmas that had been separating Rhys and Lily, but not without some major twists that I did not see coming. It is a hard-to-put-down-last part to this novel. However, after a harrowing escape all is well for them, just like I want romances to conclude.

Along with Rhys and Lily relationship secure some of the big questions I have had in this series are answered. The identity of the mastermind behind the assault against the Dragon Kings is revealed. The upcoming showdown between Con and Ulrik is growing imminent. Other supporting characters motives and actions are not so clear. Ulrik and Rhi leading the pack in this. In fact, the struggles of Rhi are becoming complicated when the last seen of her raises my eyebrow as well as many questions. I have no idea what she has planned when she asks “I want to know if someone can do bad things and still be decent.” Now that is the question of the ages. I can hardly wait for the next in the series.

Fans of Donna Grant, Night Blaze in its entity is a must read. She has out done herself this time.

Night's Blaze - Fallen Dragon
By Alima Livzletlivz
The final part of Night’s Blaze is a fury of deception, twists and the ultimate betrayal that puts Lily right in the path of danger and her life is at stake. As Lily tries to fathom the betrayal coming from close to home, the fear of losing Rhys is even more painful, and she would take a bullet to save him.

Part 4 of Night’s Blaze resounds with the echoes of evil that is hell bent on getting to the secret weapon. It unleashes the dragon with Rhys as he’s finally able to shift, but would he be able to save Lily from an imminent death from close to home?

Donna Grant brings an end to Night’s Blaze with more questions than answers, keeping us reeled into the stories of her Dragon Kings. She takes us on a ride of pure danger and the sacrifices the Dragon Kings are willing to make to save their mates. And she ends Night’s Blaze with an amazing twist of sequences that as an avid reader has you caught up in Dreagan Land, will keep you wanting more and more.

And will Lily survive the betrayal to make a future with her Dragon King?

Great conclusion... :)
By Chattykat
Okay... now we're back in the game... great conclusion!
Now that we're done, I have to say that Nights Blaze probably isn't my favorite of the Dark Kings series but that doesn't tarnish my desire to continue onward for more! For whatever reason, I just never could wrap my head around the Lily, Dennis thing. He came across as a very weak character and perhaps I needed more character development in regards to his role in the story. I was a little boggled as to why Rhys didn't just kill Dennis when he had the chance? He let Dennis play his little game and put Lily in the midst of danger and it was completely unnecessary. Anyway... I struggled with that part of the story. BUT... now I'm definitely sitting on the edge of my seat in regards to Rhi... is she going to give in to her dark side?? Please don't Rhi... :(( The way the story ended has me worried... so, yes... definitely anxiously awaiting the sixth installment now!
