Excellent series. It's a great love story blended with intrigue, humor, and hot-hot men. I thought I was in love with Wallace until his naughty brother, Cole stepped in and stole the show. The chicks in the story are good too, but come on...I'm reading to swoon over the dudes.

One of the best series I ever read ! Don't get me started on Cole . He made these books so much fun . If you're thinking twice about reading it don't. Wallace and Rena were an amazing power couple and the book didn't have a single plot hole. Absolutely loved it

"The Day of Fire" started in the 80s and evolved from 3 separate projects. The first project was an examination of "Florida-centric" survival and how to prepare for it.  The second project is actually the genesis of the Moyers.  They were a faithful but struggling family who were given the gift of wealth and what they did with it.  In its original form the story has nothing to do with survival. Wendy's diary evolved from the idea of seeing the end of the world through a young girl's eyes. The stories coalesced over time and became book one.

This is not a continuous uninterrupted narrative. This may be irritating to some, I apologize but ask you to give it a chance.  There are several uniquely different perspectives that take a little while to come together.  We see things through several eyes in order to see a broader spectrum.

And yes, they are a statement about the nature of man and purposefully features strong women who are strong leaders. But, it is also an adventure so don't take it too seriously,

          As I lay there trying to sleep, all of the words spoken about our father and his insistence on preparation came back to me. It was tempting go out and find these people, point at them and say "He told you so..."  But, father would never do that and I don't think that he would ever even think of doing it.  He was always too busy looking forward.
          In retrospect I wonder why we didn't all lose our minds and start screaming about the end of the world.  If any situation called for some therapeutic panic, this would be it.  Father had us get together and pray at least twice that on that day.  That gave us a considerable amount of peace, but most of all I think it was his and Ryan's stony calm in the face of everything that kept us focused.           We all tried to rest  through the long night but it wasn't until sometime in the early morning hours I managed to fall asleep and dream of cats...

       We gathered there at mid-morning to watch the black line of clouds roll toward us with alarming speed.  Thunderheads thrust upward for miles as the overheated land and lakes sent hot moist air upward.  The storm was not a front but a rapidly expanding low pressure cell that sucked energy inward and up into the cooler upper atmosphere.  It was a mega version of our routine afternoon convection storms.  Lightning flashes danced between the clouds and to the ground causing a continuous deep throated rumble.
       The first lightning bolt nearby sent us scurrying down to the safe room to wait out the onslaught.  The last thing I saw before we battened down was golf and softball sized hail advancing in a line in front of the wall of rain.  Lightning came with thunderous crashes of noise that shook the house.  The wind howled and we could sense the presence of the violent micro bursts that added to the damage already done by the hurricane.
       "Daddy is god mad at us?" Chessie's question made us all wonder.

Well Worth the Read

I almost didn't read this after some of the other reviews. But my better sense prevailed and I really enjoyed it. The characters were very believable and the story line was easy to follow. I guess other people might have had a problem with a story being told from multiple points of view but that just made the story more interesting and filled in some detail you would otherwise miss. Really liked this one

Just finished this terrific book. Loved the strong characters both male and female. They were well written and all totally believable. There are several careless errors and typos but not as bad as a lot of ebooks. All in all this author did a sensational job. I've already downloaded his 2nd book.

Incredible Storyline

I love this family! Faith, family, and action. I've always been intrigued by the Mormons and this series really helped me to better understand the beliefs. Not too many families like this exist in our world today, probably because our priorities are so eschewed. Excellent read, will start the second book today.

Honor has many facets to her personality

Unremarkable takes place six months after the end of Ordinary, and we see Honor waking up and being fed a bunch of **** by Superior Augustus.

I want to discuss him a little bit. He's psycho, and I usually try to find a tiny bit of good in all the villains of the books I read, but I haven't been able to find one single redeeming quality in him. And I don't want to either because I thoroughly hate him now. As other's have said, he has a Dr. Frankenstein complex, but in an even more evil and exaggerated form. I'm hoping book 3 provides us with a little more background as to how he became the way he is.

Christian is no longer the same character we read about in book 1. After all he has been through, I can't say I blame him, even though I don't like the thoughts he is having in regards to Honor. Ryder's character development is something I have enjoyed seeing, as he seems to be maturing and leaving cowardness behind. Honor has many facets to her personality, and she sort of has a hero complex she struggles with. She cares about others, maybe too much. That is her flaw, and coupled with her morals and principles, it makes it very easy for Augustus to control her and manipulate her to do whatever he pleases.

This books was not in the least predictable to me because I've never read anything like this. Oh, I've certainly read many books in the Dystopian category, but none are quite like this. I found this book easy to read and there weren't any errors that blatantly stood out to me. It was anything but dull, and had a storyline that makes me want to continue with book 3, which is the final in the trilogy. It was just missing a certain spark, and I hope I find that in the final book.

It's taken me longer than normal to come up with a review for this book because I simply couldn't find the words that described it for me. What I loved about this book the most I think was the attention to the plot. It reminds me of the old tv shows and movies where they didn't need special effects, they just relied on pure plot and little details to make it amazing. It's classic that way.

I didn't expect what I got with this book. The synopsis doesn't do it justice… I honestly don't think any synopsis could. I was drawn in from the first word until the last word.

This story starts off when Honor wakes up and discovers she has been unconscious for the last six months and held by Superior August. Now is has been rescued and is on the run from the UDKs. Something about her has changed, she must figure out what these changes are and what they mean. This story follows Honor, Christian, Ryder, and Nealon and their individual journeys towards the same goal.

This book is beautifully written, not just in the amazing plot, but the style and editing as well.
If you love a good story with twists and turns and appreciate top notch editing and writing you will enjoy this book.

I want to know who this woman's editor is, because they rock! I've come to expect a certain amount of errors in ebooks, from indie authors to the classic lit books, it just happens. I didn't notice any. (I'm not saying there wasn't any errors, just that if there are they are so few and far between that it was unnoticeable to me.) The work between the author and the editor(s?) and everyone in-between was some of the best I've seen since I bought my first ebook.

Forgive the cheesiness of this line but this book really is anything but unremarkable!

Another amazing book from Lindy Zart!

This is a fantastic continuation of the Ordinary series. So much happens that is completely unexpected (to me anyway), some pretty amazing, and some completely heartbreaking! We follow Honor as she is forced to kill and accept the evil that is injected into her, an see a new side of Ryder. So much happens, and it's impossible to tell how good it is without giving away spoilers! You won't be disappointed!

It breaks my heart to say it, but this was really disappointing.

I loved Ancillary Justice. The characters were great, the timing and plotting were incredibly thought out, subtleties were important but not pushed too hard, and there was a climax.

I hate to say it, but this book was disappointing. AJ was able to be an intimate character study, introduce this foreign concept of ancillaries and ship AIs, and make us care and sympathize with ancillaries, and also play out a plot on an epic scale. AS does none of those things. No new concepts, no important plotline, no Anaander Mianai throughout the entire book, and no recourse for the murder of the Presger translator. How is that not where this book went? Who cares about a corrupt captain smuggling ancillaries? That would get two paragraphs in AJ.

I love the omnipotent/multiple viewpoint Breq has, and the way it allowed situations to unfold in the first novel, but AS just does it because it feels obligated to. The pieces don't really intermingle, it's really just a mechanic to have three unrelated stories going on.

The second book in a trilogy is what makes it a trilogy. It expands the scope, shifts the momentum, introduces twists to issues that seemed resolved previously, and sets some expectation for the final piece. This book unfortunately did none of those things.

Also, the gender thing, which was jarring (in a good way) in the first novel, just didn't make sense in this one. What's the penis festival about? And if you're going to go directly at the issue of "so are there men and women?" why is there not an actual answer? I like the "she" as a standard pronoun use and it frankly made me realize a big bias I didn't realize I had, but there was no similar mechanism in this book.

AJ was so great that I'll read the third anyways, but this was a big letdown. I realize it was a hard act to follow AJ, but this felt mailed in.

Main plot stagnates

At one point late in Ancillary Sword, a character asks the protagonist, "How (does) any of this (matter) when we have a civil war going on that might find its way here?" Breq's answer placates that character, but after finishing Ancillary Sword many readers will likely find themselves asking the same question with a far less satisfactory response. 2 stars.

The award winning Ancillary Justice combined space opera, social commentary, and shifting perspectives to create one of the more original works of science fiction in some years. While there was some criticism of pacing and depth, most readers felt those negatives were offset by the unique worldbuilding.

Unfortunately, Ancillary Sword retains most of the negatives without the positives. The plot summary: newly promoted Fleet Captain Breq proceeds to Athoek station, where by virtue of her superior rank she can order nearly everyone to do pretty much whatever her whims demand. Anyone who disagrees? Clearly, they're morally and intellectually bankrupt, and Breq has near omnipotence to not only steamroll them but to miraculously contain their enmity. (There's probably an ironic meta here someplace comparing Breq's leadership to Anaander's eternal dictatorship, but this is almost certainly unintentional.)

While there, she uncovers a few conspiracies, spends an awful lot of time working towards social justice for various oppressed locals, and on occasion tries to make up with Awn's sister. The big picture stuff that drove the plot of Ancillary Justice disappears and the book stagnates.

Civil war? Almost nonexistent for most of the book. Alien menace? The introduction of what is easily the most fascinating secondary character in either book ends up devolving into an almost irrelevant transitional plot device. Villains? Two dimensional and not particularly subtle, especially as any ambiguity over the morality of the Radchaai gets erased as the book proceeds. And Awn's sister? While the author previously stated her protection would be Breq's main priority in this book, once she began writing, Leckie appears to have abandoned that idea. Not only is Basnaaid a very minor character, but somehow the author couldn't come up with a subplot that puts her at even moderate peril.

Those who loved the first book will probably find enough here to tolerate Sword, but the bottom line is that this just isn't a particularly enthralling sequel. Perhaps the final book of the trilogy will put all of this in context, but as a standalone this falls badly short. 2 stars.

Awesome, Crazy Canadian Invasion but Why?

** I received this book as a gift. This is an honest review.**

Sex, Peanuts, Fangs, and Fur … this book was truly nothing like I expected it to be. Yes, I read the description of the book and was really intriqued to see what it was about. I mean after all, who wouldn't be a bit curious to find out what those four things had in common?

America plans to invade Canada finally after all these years and they plan to do it using test subjects but what kind of test subjects is for you to find out. There's a lab set up that gets the subjects, injects them, lets them go over the US/Canadian border and then what happens from there is just as wild as the idea of this ever happening! There were times in this book that I sat there and wondered what it would be like it if were something that could happen one day but lets hope not!

After the subjects have been let loose, you follow them on their quest to invade Canada. Do they made it? Will they infect more? What will happen? And exactly who is the boss that they talk about through the book?

This book is well worth the read and the crazy thoughts you will be having afterwards.

Witty, Charming, Deeply Disturbing... An all out FUN read.

I have this theory about Canada...

The people are just SO NICE, that they'd all but let the apocalypse happen in their backyard. Miller's novel serves as my TOLD YA SO!

Sex, Peanuts, Fangs, and Fur, aside from having an EXCELLENT title, is one of those books you can't put down because you know that something deeply disturbing and deeply funny is going to happen on the next page. The cast of characters is so diverse and so uniquely ridiculous, it's hard no to laugh out loud as you witness their shenanigans. True to form, Miller's grasp of witty dialogue doesn't disappoint as these apocalypse-bound nut jobs bicker, banter, and seduce each other into oblivion.

I highly recommend SPFF for anyone looking for a laugh or a rule book on how to take over Canada. Because, seriously, who hasn't thought about it at least once?

This book is as just as crazy and unhinged as the title suggests.It's also bloody, sexy, exciting and in places, strangely poignant. The satire is never far from the surface. One of the author's many strengths lies in her use of dialogue, which is tight, snappy and at times, riotously funny. I've read quite a lot of Miller's stuff in the past, and this is quite a departure from her usual style which generally leans more toward the realms of drama/thriller/erotica. I for one, welcome her to the dark side and hope she'll stay here for the foreseeable future. Sex, Peanuts, Fangs & Fur: A Practical Guide for Invading Canada, is a hell of a ride. Don't miss it.

This workbook is a companion to the Mayo Clinic Guide to Stress-Free Living

On the title page of this book we are told that it is a companion to the author's The Mayo Clinic Guide to Stress-Free Living. Though this "handbook," which I think more of as a workbook though there's nothing technically wrong with calling it a handbook, can be used as a standalone volume regardless of whether one has read the guide to stress-free living, I think it would be ideal to read the guide to stress-free living before delving into this workbook and doing the exercises and responding to the questions that appear on almost every page. There are white spaces on most pages for recording answers to the questions (which is why I call this a workbook). In other words, this book is meant to be written in and one can hardly read a few paragraphs without being prompted to write something in the book. That's not bad or wrong but you should know what kind of book you're buying. (I can't imagine that this book would be good to read on a Kindle.)

Dr. Sood, the author, discusses the relationship of this volume to his guide to stress-free living in his preface to this volume: "This book engages you more directly in the program described in The Mayo Clinic Guide to Stress-Free Living. The Mayo Clinic Guide to Stress-Free Living is a comprehensive explanation of the philosophical and scientific basis of the program, while this handbook breaks the program down into a structured four-step approach."

I was motivated to order this book after seeing a news article titled, "Researchers Say They've Cracked The Code To Being Happy." The article mentions Dr. Sood as the leader of the Mayo Clinic's research on happiness, and says: "Now, after decades of research and a dozen clinical trials, researchers at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, say they've actually cracked the code to being happy, and published it in a handbook" (quote is from the article at New York CBS Local, dated June 5, 2015). Though the article doesn't mention this book by title, this is obviously the handbook to which it refers.

After receiving this book and looking it over, I decided to return it because I was not expecting and did not want a workbook (i.e., a book where you have to write responses to questions and exercises on most every page), and because I immediately realized that I'd been misled by the title of the aforementioned news article. No one has cracked a code here; the code to being happy - in a deep, profound sense as opposed to a superficial "I'm-happy-I-won-the-lottery" sense* - was "cracked" thousands of years ago by figures such as Jesus and the Buddha and Patanjali, etc. (And I mean this in a sense that has nothing to do with beliefs in afterlives or reincarnation or supernatural phenomena, etc.) I accept responsibility for being fooled by that headline. Though everything Dr. Sood offers is good and grounded in empirical research, it's not new information. *(Conditional happiness vs unconditional happiness: The greatest spiritual teachers point to unconditional happiness.)

That said, I think this book would be good for someone who is interested in interacting with a workbook and who is fairly new to the kinds of ideas that are advanced in the book. Namely: the idea that it's important to "train attention" and start a mind-body practice (the focus in this book in that context is on meditation), practice gratitude, compassion, and forgiveness, and so on. The guide to stress-free living is endorsed by Andrew Weil and Daniel Goleman, and if you are familiar with them you have a good idea of the genre into which this book fits. I think that many people who are experienced with meditation, hatha yoga, loving-kindness practice, and the like, will find this workbook too basic and introductory.

As a basic introductory workbook for anyone who is in the market for such a book, I can easily rate it four stars. At present Amazon's "Look inside" feature is not available for this book, which is why I didn't realize till actually receiving it that it was a workbook (again, a book with lots of white space for readers to write down answers and responses to questions and exercises). Its companion volume, The Mayo Clinic Guide to Stress-Free Living, does have a "Look inside" feature available.

Simple AND effective!

I rarely write reviews, but after reading some of the other comments, I have to. Something can be simple and very effective. I appreciate Dr. Sood's writing style, not because I am not educated, but because it breaks it down so I don't have to put more effort into understanding the principals than I do implementing them. I feel this is a must read for anyone who wants to improve their lives.

I Wish You Well......

As a therapist, I have given this book to clients from 16-70 and each of them have found the book extremely beneficial. One client even brought it to an appointment she had at a busy office and the staff started asking her about it and wanted to purchase it. My clients and I have agreed the simplicity of the writing and the stories/examples that go with it create an opportunity for success in practicing the principles and skills presented in the book. Dr. Sood reminds us of the universal messages of love, compassion and gratitude and their contribution to bettering our own lives and those around us. Having seen him speak and taken his resiliency course, I have also appreciated his sense of humor and his honesty in accepting that he too is human and struggles with challenges just like the rest of us. If you want a book that will keep your attention, provide you with easy skills that take less than 2 minutes a day, provide you with inspiration for creating a healthier life and world, then you will be quite happy with this purchase. I am grateful for having this resource to use with clients, myself and our staff and for the time and effort Dr. Sood took to write this handbook. To those reading this "I wish you well!"

Seph Ronden, yeah, it's a pseudonym.  The real guy is a retired USAF Colonel turned rancher who loves to write and do blacksmith work on the side.  If you happen by his place in the evening,you'll likely see him on his front porch watching his cows graze and working on his next book.
 
Seph's military experience includes search and rescue, air defense, space systems and ICBM command and control.Although once responsible for billions of dollars' worth of equipment and thousands of personnel, he now lives in central Texas with his lovely wife and four children and only commands cattle and poultry while bravely swinging a hammer and pen...in other words, he's living the dream!

RIVETING!

Hugh, a character introduced later in the book, is based on my dad. I've been to the cave that sets the stage for the story with my uncles, who are in fact the characters on which Byron & Adam are based. So obviously I have a tie to the book from a sentimental perspective. However, sentiments aside, this book is a page turner. I too think it would make a great movie series.

I liked this book very much. I was pleasantly surprised as the characters developed and the writers brought great imagination to the story. I am now a convert to the study of Irish History. This story would make a great movie.
