The galaxy is dominated by twelve beings with extremely powerful psionic powers. Would you serve one of them? Violet, the heroine of GMP, is chosen to be the pawn of a grand master, doing his bidding without ever meeting him. She, however, has hidden psi powers of her own, and her own agenda. Aurora Springer paints an intriguing picture of a universe where matter transmitters called portals are the key to galactic trade and travel - they are breaking down, and causing severe damage to the galactic economy. Violet suspects her hidden grand master is involved.
GMP is tagged as a romance, so the burgeoning relationship between Violet and one of the male characters is a major element of the plot (and it isn't difficult to work out the identity of the man). But there is enough else in the plot to keep it interesting. Don't expect answers to all the questions raised, though - there is a second book due for release shortly!

Superb Story and Fab World Building!

What a delightful read.
As a master’s pawn Violet Hunter travels over the universe meeting all sorts of sentient alien life forms including Bears, Dragons, tiny cannibals etc, and picking up items that will be useful to her in the future. She thinks her master arrogant and obnoxious at first, but over time their relationship changes and when he accompanies her, pretending to be a guide, her skills allows her to know he’s her master. He falls in love with her.
I love the detailed world building, just enough, but never too much which can pull you from the story, and the slow but inevitable love between the Violet and her master as they become partners in all ways. I especially love the way Violet wins friends and influences people by being kind and thoughtful to others. That is a strength that the evil members of the Master’s Council cannot tap into. And when Violet needs help. Her new friends step up.
This is a superb story. It has a clear pay it forward message that rings true even in a world of fantasy.

started out good, weak at end, but series improves with each novel

4.5 stars with series improving as it goes along.
This first one was really good as long as there was some mystery. But as soon as she gets to know her Grand Master, it becomes the usual trite magic vs. magic battle, which is un-writable. Why does anyone even try?
(added after reading entire series) - My review of 2nd book in series is better, and 3rd is off-scale. One of the reasons is because indeed the author rises to this challenge and catches the villain in a clever trap of her own making.

Pretty good, but could be better

I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book was well written with an exciting storyline. It was fast paced and I found myself wanting to finish to find out what happens. That said, I found it to be a little predictable. The overall story was very well done, but the love connection seemed forced and unnatural, going from nonexistent to full blown in a matter of seconds. I feel like it was overdone and overplayed with no real build up or development.
