Nice five book ending...

This was a really well done series. Anytime you can draw your readers in and they get emotionally invested in the characters, is big kudos to the author. No spoilers but it was a nice ending for all the heartache, chaos and drama that the pandemic left in its wake. Thank goodness Jake got what was coming to him. I even had respect for Ava's patience and business sense at the end. Now it's wait time for AFTERMATH in 2016 to come out. Totally recommend this series!!

Awesome & Adictive Series!

The Systemic Series is fantastic! I love the alternating, dramatic action then real-life interaction of John's group. The reader gets quickly drawn into the story, hoping, praying that John's group remains safe and together is this insane apocalyptic world. As Jake becomes less stable, more of Ava's character is revealed, making you wonder if there isn't some hope for this tough woman. I could read this series every day and never get tired of it. It's that good! Keep writing & I'll keep reading.

I was really excited to find this series but as I just finished the latest book I have to say that I am VERY disappointed. I mean SERIOUSLY the diabetic wife continues to get supplies just in time. Also everyone in the main character's direct little circle just continues to survive. Yes this is fiction but it is starting to read more like a child's fairy tale where everything in ends in a HEA scenario for the hero. Such a shame as the first three books were so good.

Filling a niche in RPGs for our youngest role-players

This is a wonderful, fun, and simple game for the youngster that is ready to make the leap to table top RPGs and still enjoys the simple joys of gross things like ... bugs!

Infestation actually fills a niche. A lot of the transition RPGs are very cute and full of happy, huggy imagery, but, having been a young boy, a lot of kids like creepy, crawly things like bugs and poop jokes.

Sorry, it is a reality.

The rules are relatively simple, and it uses common dice that can be stolen from most family games.

SEVEN stars for The Order of Seven

I received this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Rich in description, this book takes your imagination on a sensual journey allowing you to see, taste, hear, and FEEL the plot. It's hard to believe this is Beth Teliho's FIRST novel. When I came to the line in the introduction: "But there's another reason we want to explore our roots: our paranormal abilities," I was hooked. I sat leaning over my kindle devouring each enticing word from this talented new writer. Normally a book with such detail would become mundane and boring, but the writing drew me in and didn't let me stop until the very last word, and when I read that word, I sighed because I didn't want it to end.

She gave me history, archaeology, fantasy, romance, suspense, and wonder all wrapped in a beautifully told story that spans across Texas, Oklahoma, Peru, and Africa (with sprinkles of other cultures as well). The intense research that must have gone into this novel along with the real and believable characters kept me hungry for more, and the ending...well, no spoilers.

Devi is a strong lead female character who's still strikingly delicate. Sometimes she is angry and hostile but other times, she shows such endearing empathy. I liked her because she is real and natural, and I found myself cheering in her corner more than once. Plus, she has a little feisty in her. Who doesn't love a girl who says what she thinks sometimes?

Then there's Baron, just another book boyfriend to add to my list. Tall, dark, handsome...and not at all in the cliche way. He's kind and warm but bold and sexy, with tattoos and a beard. Hold on while I wipe up my drool. Oh, and he's basically a superhero...no big deal.

The remaining characters are alive and believable and come to life on the page. As I escaped into this luscious story, I felt like I was one of them.

If it were possible, I would rate this SEVEN GIANT STARS, a great read that spans across multiple genres. One click this. You won't be disappointed.

Order of Seven

This was by far one of my favorite books of 2015. I haven't read anything this unique in a LONGGGGGG time. This book is a gem, as a reader it makes me happy that I can tell how much this author put into writing this. A lot of YA fantasy books recycle plots then add sprinkles and change character names. This book is like the lovechild of the amazing race, my highschool anthropology class and one of my grandparents favorite African movies. Beth Teliho didn't cut any corners. The history, culture and amount of detail she put into the backstory for the characters and their powers was beyond refreshing. This is a great debut and I can't wait to read more of her work in the future.

My favorite aspects of this book:

1. The romance in this book was perfect. I'm not going to spoil anything but nothing about Devi and Baron felt rushed, unrealistic or cheesy. The way their powers tied into one another's made the relationship even better.

2. Nodin and Devi's relationship as siblings was adorable. The way they look out for one another and even irk each others nerve's throughout the book was spot on. I could see moments I've had with my big sister in a lot of their interactions so it made everything extremely relatable.

3. The powers in this book are so cool and different. The way dreams and prophecies tie in, the way their powers can enhance someone else's powers, the reason the order of seven exists...... I could go on forever. There are so many unique aspects in this book. The imagery used to describe the powers was so realistic that I had to take a second out of my day to see if I could manipulate energy (I can't)

4. Diversity. My family is African so that was the first thing about this book that drew me in. I was like someone is finally getting into African culture and all of the crazy magic/voodoo/spirits/powers that make African culture and beliefs so different. It doesn't stop there, the Order is made up of members from ALL over the world. There will be a character you relate to in some way or form. Beth also throws in some links to archaeological mysteries that will leave any history fiends doing happy dances. She never misses an opportunity to go above and beyond with a detail and it's great to read along and feel like you're also having a quick learning experience.

5. With some books the dialogue feels like the author thought of every corny thing teenagers wouldn't say and threw it into the convos but Order of Seven is perfect. Theres enough humor and suspense to keep every reader engaged from start to finish. The ending will leave you staring at the page for a day or two waiting for more words to magically appear.

Not only is she a great writer but she is sooooooo nice and laid back. I'm pretty sure I was fangirling in her Twitter mentions like this book was a new Justin Bieber CD when I finished reading and she laughed along with me instead of thinking I was crazy. Anything you can think of this book has probably weaved in flawlessly. Ghosts? You've got it! Animal lover? You've got it! Tree lover? It's in there too! Edge of your seat suspense? Plot twists? Unpredictable plot?
Culture and crazy creativity? It's ALL there, so do yourself a favor and read this book! You won't regret it.

This was the first book I’ve read by Beth and I fell in love with it from the start. The premise was so unique and it was a treat to experience. I was invested in the story less than 2o pages in. Every moment I spent away from this book was torture since all I wanted to do was get lost in it again. There are a mixture of cultures and we got to unravel secrets of our main characters as we go.
Our main character, Devi, is a psychic and her brother, Nodin, is an empath. Their journey was intriguing. I loved the dynamic of their relationship so much, they sort of reminded me of my brother and I. They are close siblings and I felt the love between them and the others characters. The relationships between all of them were deep and meaningful.
Talking about Nodin, he has to be one of my favorite characters of all time. One of the reasons is that even though him and I look almost completely different on the outside, we battled and are battling similar demons. My heart is breaking just thinking about him and reliving the things he’s gone through. He made me cry so much; I wanted to reach into the story and hug him. I wanted to make his pain go away but I was extremely proud of him in the end of it all.
I felt like the relationship between Devi and her brother’s friend, Baron, escalated too quickly for my liking. Their interactions always made me giddy and I got over the insta-attraction early on since there was a reason for it. But other things, I couldn’t really get past. I will say though, that Baron is H.O.T. Jesus. Christ. That man managed to make me uncomfortable in my severe attraction to him. I don’t think any other male character has ever made me feel that way before so kudos Beth!
I felt like the resolution was anti-climactic for me. I would’ve loved a tad more conflict/chaos at the end but all in all it wasn’t disappointing. I loved the writing style even if I managed to find it a little predictable. There wasn’t any sugarcoating or overselling in Beth’s agenda and I loved that. I honestly can’t wait for the next adventure!

Great page-turning and captivating read!

Amazing. If you thought the first book in the series was good, this one will blow your mind. This book was wonderfully written and kept me interested to the very end. While targeted at middleschool/teenaged girls, at age 24 I found myself unable to put the book down, staying up far later than planned the last few nights and finished the book in three days. You know you've found a good book when "one more chapter" turns into 4, and then into 10, and before you know it its 4 in the morning. (Which was me last night) It is currently 2:30 in the morning and I just finished it and am looking forward to the next! Highly recommend! Happy reading:)

Surface Series Sequel Doesn't Flounder

The second book was just as great as the first. One more chapter quickly turned into 4 and then 5. I ended up reading until the wee hours just to finish it. I love the way Amanda weaves the characters, their struggles, science and math, and just plain fun into a net that will capture all levels and ages of readers. A great family read – I’m sharing this series with all my friends. I’m heading to her Orphan Train series next. Hoping another YA story comes out soon!

Can't put it down.

Amanda Zieba again topped herself with this sequel to Breaking the Surface. I had to keep reading to find out what happened next, could'nt put it down. Characters really evolved and I found my self cheering for the good guys. Bridging the Tides encompassed a whole array of emotions from fun and success, to loss and tragedy. I can't wait to see what Amanda has in store next for future readers.

Una entretenida historia que se acopla perfectamente en el universo de La Biblia de los Caídos. Me gustó bastante, pero fue muy corto. Deja con ganas de seguir leyendo más. Definitivamente leeré otros trabajos de este autor.

Outstanding scifi thriller

All I kept thinking as I read this was, "Holy cow, this could really happen to us." Seldom do you read a scifi novel that pays such close attention to physics, economics and socio-political ramifications behind a plausible yet Earth-shaking premise. Don't want to say too much and spoil the goods, but this is an excellent read that hits all the most satisfying aspects of a great futuristic scifi mystery. Must read!

It's worth the price of admission and then some.

I'm a very simple person, every time I read a book I ask myself some questions at the end. Was it worth the cost? When I finished the book was a i glad that I read it? I thought this book was a bargain at it's current price and I was was happy while reading the book and happy when I finished it. But I liked the first book in this series better. At the beginning of the first book the author wonderfully described Nita's job working in the volcano, that's what hooked me and caused me to buy the novel. The end of the first book i felt had a superior ending by not only tying those loose pragmatic ends together but by tying up those loose emotional threads and some how giving a firm foundation for more of Nita's thrilling adventures to come. Truly I felt the author had wrapped things up extremely well with the novel Free Wrench and better than 98 percent of the books that I've ever read, and I've read a lot of books. Also in Free Wrench, Nita's skills as an engineer were showcased to a greater degree and I always like the engineers in any story. Scotty from Star Trek was my favorite character. Mister Lallo just set the bar extremely high with Free Wrench and to me this book while wonderful just didn't quite match it. So I am being extremely unfair and only giving it four stars.

A strong novel in the Free Wrench world

Skykeep is a sequel to Free Wrench in many ways, with the same cast and set in the same world, but it’s also an independent story. Rather than maintaining the same narrator, all the crew of the Wind Breaker are given a chance to hold the point of view, allowing us to get to know them a lot better. I’d expected from the blurb I read to find Nita driving the rescue, but that’s not the case. Without spoiling anything, I can say that each member of the crew, including Nita, had a part to play, even Wink and the newest addition, Nikita (another aye-aye), while despite being one of the captured, Nita doesn’t let a simple thing like being held in a secret, impregnable prison stand in her way.

The reasons I enjoyed the Wind Breaker and its crew in Free Wrench are very evident here. The crew is full of ingenuity, strong in the face of any odds, and even if they have momentary lapses, no matter what, they have faith it will all work out–somehow. The crew isn’t a collection of geniuses, nor do they have unique skills absent from any other crew. What they have is persistence, creative thinking, and the willingness to work hard and be flexible.

These characteristics are part of the reason they make friends wherever they go. The other reason being how they respect the strengths in others and do not dismiss any out of hand even when, for example, they know there are no good fuggers. Ultimately, it’s the last that makes them good people. The same actions could have made them villains but their motivations, and how they go about things, are always solid and understandable. Even better, they’re capable of seeing the motivations driving others, something that leads to forgiveness when hatred would not be out of place.

There are half a dozen places where a line made me laugh, where a turn of phrase captured a situation beautifully, or where a comment speaks to a much deeper understanding of how things work than might be expecting in what is a romp and adventure. I’m avoiding specifics because they come within context that would give things away, but there are more levels to this story than the overt ones, something I always appreciate.

I can give one example of their unconventional thinking from the very beginning though.

The Wind Breaker is one of the few ships able to do their own repairs, thanks to Nita. She’s training the rest of the crew, a rather difficult task when the only one with technical expertise is focused on blowing things up rather than stopping them from doing so. It’s with this background that they arrive at the only port willing to do business with them because it has no fear of offending the Fug people because everyone there has already been ostracized. Nita’s skill in repairs is one of the things the Wind Breaker has to offer, and Lil volunteers to assist. None of that made me laugh though. Rather, it was Lil’s logic as she states if she has to learn this fixing stuff, much better to do so on someone else’s equipment. It’s not a mean statement to her. It’s pure logic and a perfect demonstration of her character, something a far sight from heroic but more pragmatic than villainous.

Though I’d been looking forward to a continuation of Nita’s adventures, the broader focus on the whole crew was lovely and led to a strong novel without any risk of repetition. I am most definitely joining the chorus of those asking for more.

A worthy sequel and a promising future for the Free-Wrench series

I have been a huge fan of Joseph Lallo for a couple of years now. His new releases are always on the top of my reading list when they come out. However to be honest I was Pleasantly surprised with Skykeep. I liked it so much more than I ever expected I would.

To get some context. This is the second book in the Free-wrench series. I had read Free-wrench when it came out and I liked it but it did not hold the same place in my heart as some of his other works. So when I heard about the sequel here I was expecting about the same. Boy am I glad I was wrong.

Joseph really takes the world and characters that he created in the first book and fleshes it out even more. This book was just all around fun and exciting. The characters, the places, the world building. I read it over a couple of days and it was one of those books that was just painful to lay down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Well done on this one. Certainly worth your time. If you like Adventure, steampunk, pirates or if you just like good solid story telling and great characters then this is the book for you.

Will the Organics Survive?

What a terrific series this is: I hope Mr. Weil can find a way to sustain it beyond his next book; I very much enjoy his willingness to delve into the details of the humans/Altons vs. Hocklyn/AI's) technology, and the depth and tech detail to which he treats the clashes between the opposing forces. Character development is just what I would expect, enough to sustain interest and not so much that the central plot is cluttered with page-filling back stories and extraneous character portraits taking the reader away from the central plot line(s). Weil's focus on the "special five", and their relationships with lovers and friends, their close alliance with the Carethians, and the Altons, and of course, the Avenger's AI, Ariel, provide a solid fulcrum for the constant action occurring between the warring races. There's sufficient interaction, too, between the Hocklyn characters to help the reader appreciate that the Hocklyn empire, with or without the AIs, is still a determined enemy set to destroy the human/Alton races, and to continue their march through the galaxy. Galactic Conflict was a very satisfying read for me, as have been all the books in this great series; I'm very much looking forward to Weil's next Slaver Wars book to find out whether (or not) the galaxy can be "saved" from the AI's!

Rediculous Line of Battle

Other reviewers have talked about the authors repetitive style and one dimensional characters. I agree with them, as I find myself just skipping through large parts of the book because I felt I had read that stuff before. I guess, because of my own background, the biggest criticism I have is of the line of battle that he employs in the book. That's in addition to the ridiculous ranking he chose to employ for his officers. When you get right down to it, the battles and the ship deployment the author uses makes no sense at all. It seems the only reason for the existence of destroyers and light cruisers in the line of battle is to be blown up with the corresponding lose of their crews. And, the carriers seem to be there for no real reason I can think of. I think the author just looked at the types of ships that were used in WWII and felt he had to have the same types in his space opera. Ergo, we have destroyers, light cruisers, heavy cruisers and so forth without any thought of the role they played in the twentieth century navies and how that role would be applicable to space warfare.
The destroyer is not a line of battle ship and should not be used in that role except in extreme emergencies. No navy in the twentieth century used them that way for good reason. That's not what they were designed to do. The are the greyhounds of the sea and their primary mission in the WWI conflict was to act as the fleet's light Calvary and as the primary defender of the fleet against the growing submarine menace. In WWII, the destroyers were used as anti-submarine screens for the fleet's and convoys and as the outer ring of anti-aircraft defense against attacking planes. How does that relate to the authors space opera battles and the capabilities he gives the larger ships? It doesn't.
What about the carriers? The reason why the carrier emerged as the principle offensive weapon in WWII is that it had the capability of reaching out far beyond the strike range of capitol ships and could put devastating firepower on it's targets. The carrier and it's planes were the deciding factory in the naval engagements of that war. Their only danger was from the planes of the enemies carriers. No fleet carrier ever got within the striking range of a capitol ship during that war. Almost all the enemies ships sunk or damaged in WWII were inflicted either by submarines of attacking aircraft.. That' true for both sides. How does that relate to space warfare in this space opera? It doesn't. In the novel, the capitol ships have such long range striking power that the use of carriers and their corresponding planes really have no role. Think about it, if the battleships in WWII had been able to attack the carriers directly, the carriers usefulness would have nullified completely.
The author just took a hodpodge of ships, threw them into the mix and then tried to make suspense happen. In my mind it didn't work. I would like to have seen more thought put into the makeup of the fleet than the author chose to give it.
Of course, as a last thought. The author has set up a no win situation in his books. He has postulated a fleet that has a small advantage in technology, but is outnumbered over a hundred to one in ships, manpower, and resources. You can't win that kind of war. He can produce ships faster than you can destroy them. In a war of attrition, you lose. For the good guys to win you must have a overpowering advantage in technology. You can't trade loses at a 3 to 1 or even 5 to 1 with an enemy that has such a large numerical advantage and hope to survive.

About the Author
Christy was raised in a very religious home and was taught the importance of God's intervention in her life from a very young age. She began having unique experiences with ghostly encounters while growing up, but didn't understand what she was experiencing. She consulted her pastor and other Christian mentors with questions about ghosts and the afterlife, but was discouraged from seeking any information since it was not aligned with her Christian faith. Christy felt she could make a difference in helping those in need who felt tormented by ghostly hauntings. She wanted to learn more about the afterlife and about what happened to souls who were confused or lost on their way to their eternal resting place. For years, Christy struggled with what was truly right and wrong from the teachings of her religious upbringing. She was told she couldn't be a Christian and also seek answers about the paranormal. Judged harshly by those around her, she still felt a longing to help others. She asked God to lead her in the direction He wanted her to go. As she embraced peace about her decisions, she began to use her talents and abilities to help others. Intrigued by her ghostly experiences and intuition for the "other side" Christy began conducting research and investigating the paranormal in her early twenties. In June of 2000, Christy formed her own organization, called O.K.P.R.I. (Oklahoma Paranormal Research and Investigations), where she and her team of investigators began accepting cases involving ghostly phenomenon at locations thought to be haunted. Still to this day, Christy and her team of professional investigators continue their work to help others in need while continuing their search for knowledge and truth about what awaits each of us on the other side.

Fascinating!

I found this book to be really fascinating and I learned a lot about spirits. I've only had one encounter with a ghost, I think, but to this day I still ponder about whether or not it was an actual ghost or just a figure of my imagination. I think Christy does some really amazing work and I'm glad she makes an effort to help spirits move on instead of like some paranormal investigators who only do it out of selfish reasons or just for studies. I haven't completely finished the book, but I'm half way through it already and I'm just amazed at all the events that she has experienced. I was very interested in the story of Gary. I kinda felt sorry for that ghost since he seemed like a wondering spirit needing help and didn't get the help he needed. Just by reading his story I learned that Oklahoma has swamps! I didn't know that Oklahoma had swamps!! Maybe that's where Gary's spirit is trapped in. I will say that some of the grammar is off in this book. There were a couple of sentences I had to re-read, because a word was used incorrectly or spelled wrong, but other than that it's still an enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book for those interested in the paranormal or are at least open minded to the existence of spirits.

WOW….FINALLY A BOOK WITH TRUE GHOST STORIES, PHOTOS, INSIGHTFUL & HELPFUL INFORMATION!! A MUST READ!!!

I thought the author did a fantastic job writing this book and presenting helpful and insightful information in it. It's not just a book with retold ghost stories but rather a true to life story that covers REAL ghost stories and experiences. I also absolutely LOVE the paranormal photos that are included in this book too. What's neat about them is because as Christy tells her story, she includes in these photos that follow along with the story she is telling. This book is also very helpful to those who have underdeveloped 6th senses because Christy helps her readers understand what it is like to have gifts and not understand them. Through her experiences, Christy lets her readers know how to use and understand their gifts. Christy also brings in religion vs. paranormal and she breaks it down in simple terms letting people know that both religion and the paranormal both have important places in spirituality. I especially love chapter 10 where Christy tells the stories of ghostly attacks that happened to her and her group as they came face to face with some powerful and scary entities. Christy starts the book off with vital information in understanding a haunting and then she begins the ghost stories and adventures. If you want a TRUE, exciting and fascinating book to read that will keep you on the edge of your seat, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

Finally... a book on paranormal that everyone (even a healthy skeptic) can really enjoy!

This is a great read that takes you through the journey of a psychic's discovery of her gifts, how she comes to use them to research the paranormal in order to understand phenomenon with a logical eye and to help people understand who are scared and don't know where else to turn. Christy does a great job at describing her gifts in a way that someone without the ability to communicate with those who have passed can understand. She takes you through the beginning where her religious upbringing conflicts with the world that is her reality and how she comes to realize her gift is meant to help those who have crossed over as well as those in the physical world that need help understanding the phenomenon around them. I think anyone who is a skeptic and a those who are strong believers in all things paranormal can enjoy this read! It really offers a lot to everyone with an interest in the topic of ghosts. I highly recommend it!!!
