Beginning of a story arc only

This story follows Park. Park has had a horrendously bad childhood which has kept her from being able to form romantic attachments. Bas is a three hundred year old vampire who is dealing with something new in the vampire community, a vampire who is making war on other vampires. The first move in the unknown vampire's war was to turn one of Bas' blood bonded into a vampire. The next move was to set the new vampire to killing those close to Bas. Bas is just trying to compel a human into giving him a ride home when he runs into Park, who DOES'T compel. Neither does she blood bond, though her blood is exceptional. As they travel to his home, Bas falls in love with her. He also identifies her as something other than strictly human, but he can't define what.

There are multiple strory arcs in this book. Although the story circles around Park and focuses on her relationship with Bas, there are multiple other arcs happening. So many, that by the end of the book, it has taken away somewhat from Park and Bas. We meet Park's friends in this book, some of whom become vampire and find mates of their own. We meet Bas' staff, who have their own secrets to play into the story. We meet Park's parents and see her unique powers develop. We find out more about what Park is and the secretive community she and Bas will now be a part of. We meet the bad guys. However the story ends with the loss of a major battle and some of our favorite characters. With so many new people running around, we don't get more than a taste of any of them. The first half of the book invests us in Park and Bas, but the second half of the book, wasn't as compelling, with too much activity and not enough focus on the connection of our main characters.

Great Book!

This book was fantastic! I've never really read Vampire Romance type novels before but I took a chance on this one and it paid off in a big way. The story just draws you in and leaves you wanting more. I can't wait to read more from this author! Take a chance and buy this, you won't regret it! I loved it!

Another great Vampire Series in the making!

Wow... really surprised by the value I got with this read. The price was fantastic and so is the story. Loved the character development and the creativity of this new vampire world. While there are some gramatical errors, I did not find them distracting, I was too involved in the story. Looking forward to the next book! Hurry hurry hurry...... :)

About the Author
Philip Charles Barragan, II is an author and activist born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, a not-so-sleepy suburb of Los Angeles. He has been published in The Blade Magazine, The Big Ad Magazine, and Two Hawks Quarterly, an online literary journal. Philip earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles in 2011. And when not challenging the status quo, Philip works with his husband, artist Mason Arrigo, on several projects including the upcoming graphic novel of Fatizen 24602.

Delilah being a beautiful plus-sized activist and Mimi

The world described in Fatizen 24602 is in the not too distant future. While the book deliberately used fat as the sin of the day so to speak, it speaks of shame in all of its forms. By creating a powerful critique of the hypocrisies within American society in a fictional work, Fatizen 24602 boldly defends civil liberties and the right for the individual to make decisions for him or herself. It attacks the orthodoxies that many take for granted and instead, shows how when taken to their ultimate extent that those orthodoxies can hurt and yes, kill.
Delilah Palladino, the stories protagonist, and Mimi Master, the antagonist, are both well-rounded characters that engage the reader. Delilah being a beautiful plus-sized activist and Mimi, an obsessive, diabolical health nut that hates everyone of size. Fatizen 24602 is a delicious battle between the two that all of us can learn from and serves up that wonderful dessert on a silver platter of language. It certainly has me desiring for more!

This book is great! PB takes the currently last remaining socially-acceptable prejudice and imagines what would happen if that were taken to governmental extremes. Well written and well drawn, this book is full of evocative description, gripping plot twists, and, most interesting to me, a certain ethical ambiguity you only find in the best literature. While the author clearly hates prejudice, no character's choices come off as clearly right or without consequence. Bravo!

Between Heaven and Hell

This second book in the series starts us off with Heaven, Hell and the fallen angels still at war. Knowing this still, Sara and Daniel have been living an ordinary life, everything has been going wonderful with their son Danny. Unfortunately good things never last! Sara, or Azrael has some hard decisions ahead of her. She has to think of her family as she battles in the apocalypse. Angels and Demons and the spirits that never let her rest keep telling her things and really making her unsure of herself and her ability. She needs to determine who is really on her side, who is her enemy.

I really am loving this series! I love that there is a division amongst the angels. I really am fond of the newest character, Lucifer. He seems really dark, romantic and sexy!!! I cant wait for the next series to see who wins the war. I want to see Sara succeed. She deserves it for all the terrible mayhem she has had to endure!

Fantastic continuation of this amazing series. More twists, turns await the readers as they continue Sara's story

After being sucked into this world with At Death's Door, I knew to expect another wild ride in book two, and of course I was not disappointed. Given where book one left us, it was sort of a given that things would implode once again with this book and absolutely that happens.

I love that Astrid Tallaksen really gets you deeply involved with the characters, you can really feel their pain, fear, desperation, etc. Sara has been through so much and with this continuation of her story she goes through even more, but through all of the awful things, you can still see into the person Sara is and see her emotions and how she's breaking and yet, she's got a strong resiliance too. She may take a moment or two to wallow, but ultimately she's not the type to sit back and give up, not our Sara, she's not going down without a fight.

Between Heaven and Hell introduces us to some new characters, while updating us on those we've previously met/seen in the story. I found these new characters to be pivotal to the future of the storyline. Without giving away spoilers, I can say that I look forward to seeing more interactions with a certain male character in the next book.

There are definitely some crazy twists in this book, some quite unexpected and others that seemed pretty given as we read things play out. I know that the next book is going to be even more Epic and I can't wait to see what the battle brings Sara's way. I expect major revelations and further surprises thrown our way, but I can't wait.

Note quite as good as the first, but still good

“Between Heaven and Hell” starts off where “At Death’s Door” left off. Sara and Daniel are living back at their home in Wisconsin with son, Danny. They are hoping to live quietly and as a family. Unfortunately, the apocalypse waits for no one. Sara is getting messages telling them to run, but she is tired of running. But does she wait too late? Will she be able to keep herself and Daniel safe while keeping Danny out of the hands of Michael and Samael?

This book didn’t move at quite the same speed as the first book. Most of this book is with Sara on the run or trying to find people (trying not to give spoilers). Her new travel partner, Lu, was a pleasant surprise. I shocked myself by not only liking this character but feeling sorry for him at times.

We still have the same cast of characters, which included demons, angels, archangels, fallen angels, souls, and ghosts. Sara spent most of the book angry and hurt, for good reason, but it got old after a while. Though the first book moved at very good pace, I found this one to drag on a bit. There is an unexpected death and an unexpected love story. Unlike the first book, this part ends in a cliffhanger which you’ll have to wait until December for the final book in the trilogy (this according to her Facebook page).

I preferred the pace of the first book and found this one a little long. But I am sure readers will enjoy the continuing saga. I would rate it 3.5/5.

I highly recommend "Becoming a Professional Life Coach" for both new and experienced coaches, and for anyone interested in learning the "coach approach" in their lives, business and communities. Today coaching skills are an invaluable resource, both in the workplace and for personal fulfillment, yet there are still millions that don't even know what coaching is or how to become one. Pat and Diane deliver an easy to read, comprehensive guide offering history, theory and practical application of the most potent skills used by professional life coaches worldwide. This book addresses a great need in the marketplace.

As a veteran coach, it was refreshing to expand my own depth of knowledge on skills I've been using for years. They describe the skills, and when and how to use the skill most effectively. I also love how they included the developmental stages of consciousness, which help people recognize how ready someone is to change, and the best way to support someone to the next stage. They've also included sections on identifying life purpose, creating fulfillment and working on practical issues like money. The case studies integrate real-life examples to demonstrate how a skill or process is put into action.

Since Patrick Williams is the founder of his own coaching school, I expected a cookie cutter curriculum from his own school's teachings. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how thoroughly they integrated and referenced the best disciplines from a variety of coaching schools, as well as useful and distinguished models from the field of psychology. It is no wonder that Patrick Williams is known as "The Ambassador for Life Coaching." This is a book for ANYONE!

As a certified life coach, I love this book. It is a must for any experienced or new coach. In addition, this book can help anyone that wants to enhance their personal growth and improve their relationships. It truly is a book for anyone and everyone! It teaches you skills that will improve your personal life, at work, as a parent, and a friend. I have an extensive library of coaching books and this is my favorite by far.

I am also using it as a foundation for a professional workshop that I am writing and teaching.

I highly recommend this book for anyone.

Great Resource

This book is a great resource. I am a life coach and have used many of the exercises with my clients. The book is also good to give to my new clients who are interested in the field of coaching. I also enjoy the quick history of coaching in the beginning. This is good resource to have on the shelf to be used as needed.

About the Author
Cedar Sanderson was born an Air Force brat in Nebraska and spent her childhood en route to new duty stations. Her formative years after her father left the Air Force were spent being home-schooled on the Alaskan frontier. She removed to the "more urban" climes of New Hampshire at the beginning of high school. She has had the usual eclectic range of jobs for Fantasy/ SF authors, ranging from Comedy Magician to Apprentice Shepherdess. She counts the latter as more useful in controlling her four children and First Reader. Her fascination with science dates to her early childhood spent with her grandmother on the Oregon coast studying the flora and fauna and learning to prepare a meal from what she could glean from a tidal pool. This lead to a lifelong interest in science, cooking, and herbalism.

seamless storytelling

This review for all three Pixie for Hire books:
Here there be everything (possibly not whales). Good, petty evil, real evil, magic, technology (at least the parts that go boom!), loyalty, love, respect, honor,danger....
It is not any one point that makes this series an outstanding read, rather the flawless seamless integration of all the parts (including two first person narrators which is very difficult). Indeed, the concepts and mis-adventures are mostly what you expect from a fantasy novel. No, it is the characters, none of them perfect, but warts and all, they join together and the manner of their adventure and adversity, and the way so many character traits are melded seamlessly into the narrative makes this series an exceptionally enjoyable read.

Love the series

I am always looking for a different type of book and this series is unusual.
I started with book 1 “Pixie Noir” a unique book with a pixie bounty hunter as the main character searching for a potential “Fae” queen living in Alaska to request her to return to the land of her heritage and accept her inheritance. I immediately purchased “Trickster Noir” and “Dragon Noir” which follows their adventures together. Loved the series I will be watching for more books.

Great book 3!

Details! This book is chock full of them, well to be fair the whole series but it does NOT get stuck in the details which is great. Great story telling details that pull you in to the story farther. Not something like a Tom Clancy book that can get lost in them for a while at times.

I never quite know exactly where the book is going until we get there, which is always fun. Though I did sorta see one thing after this other thing happened. And then I was right about that thing. So that was nice.

Also, you do get a real book here. And with each of the books in the series. A lot goes on. Many of the kindle indie books feel like they are roughly 1/2 the book or so. Not with Sanderson. You definitely get your moneys worth!

Did I mention I wasn't doing spoilers?

For a 3rd novel out (though I'd imagine there are others I've not seen). I thought this was a damn good book and quite a nice series with interesting and emoting characters that keep me in the story. I found all three of the books to be a pretty steady pace. Enjoyable but not "I cant work/sleep/watch tv, must finish book" fast pace. Then again, since this is book 3... and not say 10 for someone like Lois Bujold who does that with her books to me... I have high hopes that these will grab me more and more as her books are published. As a side note, just am listening to "Cetaganda" and even though I've read that darn book 3 or 4 times and listened to it as well, I have trouble putting it down. Makes doing the dishes that much faster for me with a good audio book. Regardless of who's book, be it Ringo, Weber, Sanderson (cough, get them audio books out missy!) Bujold, Clancy whatever.

If you've read any of the others in this series, then get this one, you wont regret it.If you haven't... then don't start here, start with Pixie Noir

Thankfully, not the end. GIVE ME MOOORE!

I just finished this book. Just now. I’m still raw and beaten down, and if Claire were here, I would have some choice words for her. This is where I will warn you, as no one had the heart to warn me: This is NOT the last book in the Odium series. For some reason, I thought this was a trilogy, so I had a certain idea in my head about where this book was headed. I was thoroughly confused when it went in the exact opposite direction. The further I got into the story, the more wary I became. Why isn’t Claire tying up all the loose threads? Why have my questions not been answered?! WHY is Nina doing that?! SOMEONE STOP HER!! *Sigh* Did I mention I had choice words? Anyway. That’s your warning.

The story started off a little slow, mostly because life kept getting in the way. Apparently a mother is not allowed more than three minutes of unbroken reading at one time. Huh. Anyway, it certainly puts a damper on the tense scenes that Claire is known for. Overall, the pace of the book was a little slower than I was anticipating, but it had a lot of really interesting introspection going on instead. Nina kept flirting with the idea of having hope, before having it dashed on the rocks yet again. This internal back and forth struggle she has going on is both fascinating and painful at the same time. You want her to be happy, to be wrapped up safe in Mikey’s arms, to have all her dreams come true… but at the same time you know that she has to be hard in order to survive. Nina needs to be protected by her sarcastic, bitter outer shell, and quite honestly, I would be sad to see it go!

One tiny detail really stuck with me while reading the first half of the book. Nina gets a cold. It’s such a simple thing, but so overlooked in zombie movies and books! How often does someone have to battle something so mundane, when the overall plot already has the characters running for their lives? I loved it! I can just imagine myself in that same situation. I would be sick ALL THE TIME, while fleeing through a winter rain, undernourished and overly stressed. How are ALL characters not sick ALL the time?!

At this point, I’m going to assume that you have all ready a book by Claire Riley. Yes? If you haven’t, you need to pick one up right this second. She has a very distinctive style, filled to the brim with personality and flair, with a touch of sarcastic bite. Odium III did not disappoint. There was dreadful foreshadowing right from page one (dum dum duuuuuum), and I just knew that my heart was about to get broken. Quick! Cut all ties! Maybe if I don’t love them, Claire won’t kill them! She is ruthless when it comes to sacrificing her characters, but I love how absolutely realistic that is. Just because everyone’s rooting for you, doesn’t mean you’re safe.

Claire, I love you. But I also really, really hate you. I’ll forgive you, though, if you can get Odium IV into my hands by September.

Need book 4 NOW!

Odium III was such a hard read because I’m already so invested in the Saga; in Nina’s journey, that her pain was my pain, her loss my loss, and her victories my victories. That being said I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything that happened in the story. I so naively went in hoping and thinking that Claire C. Riley-author extraordinaire, would take us down a different path, a path of least resistance- if you will, but that was so very naïve. What’s the fun in that? Riley wants you to hope and think that everything will be okay, that our tomorrow will be a little brighter. And just as your smile gets a little bigger, your hope grows a little more, and when you look to your left and see someone you love- BAM! It’s chaos! You just keep reading saying nonono, this can’t be happening , but oh man it is and your left with a huge whole where your heart use to be. Well that was me anyways. I still have hope because I’m pretty sure there’s at least two more books to come!

The Odium Saga Just Gets Better

Each time I read one of Claire C Riley's books I say to myself "OK! This time I'm prepared for anything she has to throw at me." And then each time I'm gut punched. Odium III had everything a great zombie story should have. It was Dark, disturbing, sad, heartbreaking, passionate and brought the fears even more so than before. With hints of humour sprinkled into this dark world. I was left so wound up by the cliffhanger ending. Even though I wanted to scream, it was written perfectly. Another quality piece of writing by Claire C Riley.
