"I envy your journey with him."
Jason Sterling never meant to put his life or anyone else's in danger. The Genier law firm's excellent reputation assures him all is well when he accepts the unusual job offer with the Genier's personal friend and client. The mysterious and alluring Augere becomes Jason's obsession. He doesn't know that the sumptuous home they share on Beacon Hill in Boston is far from the life in France, and the bayous of Louisiana, where Augere's existence was forever changed. He has yet to learn the secrets of the decaying house in Savannah and its connection to Augere. Jason rationalizes the occurrences of anything unusual even when events on a trip to Europe suggest a reality quite different than what he knows but has begun to suspect. When a terrifying incident convinces Jason he has been the victim of a dangerous and bitter betrayal he loses everything in an attempt to save his life. In time he comes to realize that putting his former life back together may not be the easiest or wisest decision. Both harrowing and uplifting occurrences continue to divide and reunite the two as their journey becomes a struggle for understanding, acceptance and friendship on their own terms.

From Readers Favorite review 8/15/2015 by Diane Lynch:
I enjoyed the culturaland historical aspects of this excellent story. The book takes place innumerous locations: New Orleans, Minnesota, Boston, Georgia, Italy,France, and Montreal. They are all so different and add variety to thenovel. Sandrine Genier does an amazing job with the plot and writing ofThe Vampire. It has been a long time since I picked up a book full of so much detail, foreshadowing, and symbolism. There is a lot going on inthe story that makes you think. I will anxiously be awaiting the release of the next book to see where it takes us.
Small Press Bookwatch: June 2016 James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief, Midwest Book Review
Critique: First of a prospective series, The Vampire is a poignant, emotional saga about misplaced trust, shattered fallout, and the enduring connections between kindred souls. Author Sandrine Genier has crafted a novel with complex, three-dimensional characters, and dilemmas that transcend the veil between life, death, and undeath. Highly recommended, especially for connoisseurs of cerebral vampire literature!

Unique, Original, Refreshing, and Completely Hypnotic!
By Roma Gray
I read lots and lots of books, and this novel is now one of my favorites. The Vampire was such a lovely read that I found myself deliberately slowing down to savor the experience.
The book starts off following the main character, Jason, to New Orleans on vacation after he has been laid off. He meets a mysterious man who offers to hire him for a job. But wait...I feel like I'm jumping ahead. And you absolutely cannot jump ahead with this book. With this book, it is the experience that counts.
Jason doesn't just go to New Orleans, he shares the culture, food, and experience with the reader. I felt like I was there. The same with London and Boston. I attribute this to the author's absorbing writing style. It was nearly hypnotic.
Another hypnotic effect is how she has crafted the characters. I loved both Jason and the vampire. Both were wonderfully charming in their own right. They experience tension, friendship, humor (the scene when the poor vampire has to figure out a grocery store for the first time was hysterical!) and nerve rattling adventures. I felt all of it right there with them.
This book was a startling discovery. From the unassuming title, I never expected it to be such a gem. I'm very much looking forward to the next book

The best vampire saga I have read in years. This author tells a refreshingly modern story that kept me interested and entertained from cover to cover. If you want hours of escape this is a great piece of fiction. Beware you will become attached to the characters, I found myself wanting to read the next book this author releases!

Kitty Muse Book Reviews

It started out as a dream job—luxurious housing, travel, use of a high-end car, and more money than he could ever possibly use. Jason is curious though—when is the actual work supposed to start?
His employer, Laurent Augere, is secretive, elusive, temperamental—and rarely communicates with Jason, who is supposed to be his “assistant”. Mr. Augere’s lawyers only give Jason enough information to keep him quiet, and he fairly willing to go along with their answers.
At least at first. Then things start happening that arouse Jason’s curiosity. Events happen that are – impossible. Such as Augere’s ability to move faster than Jason’s vision can follow, and the way others are almost hypnotized by his very presence. Jason dismisses them as a trick of the eye or a certain tiredness on his part.
When he can no longer deny the truth, he must make a decision that could mean his life.
This book is a treasure, and I don’t mean that lightly. The author has a gift that is rare—the ability to tease the reader along, page by page and paragraph by paragraph, giving out only enough information to keep the interest super-charged without giving anything away. The well-timed pace is often interrupted by a sudden galloping of drama that is totally unexpected.
Laurent Augere is anything but the classical vampire. I won’t give anything away, because he is too fascinating to betray in that manner. However, it is safe to say that he is a blend of sophistication and innocence, vulnerability and viciousness. The experiences he has are both poignant and hilarious. (The part where he is tending to a sick Jason is a great example of this.)
I have to be honest—when I finished this book, I felt like the door to a wonderful world was closed to me. Now I am one of the growing ranks of readers who is clamoring for the next book in the series to be released.
