I quite liked this instalment in the series

I quite liked this instalment in the series. It is definitely a step up from Spectra’s Gambit. There are a number of likable characters that are back and, unlike what I felt when reading Spectra’s Gambit, I cared about and wanted to follow them. Like all books in The Lost Tales of Power series this is a mix of fantasy and science fiction. It is also borderline young adult books. The story is rather simple and focuses more on the characters and the heroics than the details. Especially the military strategies and tactics are fairly non-existent or when there are any the are rather wild. Also the characters do not need much to be convinced about seeing the “right way” and following it.
Although the story is simple in one sense the author makes up for this by adding a plethora of conspiracies and twists. Allegiances and faction abound and there are always some people in each book that are not what they seem. Luckily the good people always seem to be good people in the end even though they occasionally take a stroll on the dark path.
If these books would have been pure fantasy or pure science fiction they would have been decent books but nothing more. The mix of fantasy, magic and science is, in my mind, what makes these books above average. Wizards, sorcerers, cyborgs, starships and “ordinary” people are thrown into the blender to form a very enjoyable mix.
This book picks up on the Sac’a’rith thread and I like the path it took. Cannot say much without introducing spoilers but it looks like there might be some nice stuff coming from that direction in the future. Grandmaster Vydor is making a few appearances which is nice although he does not play a major role in this book. Unfortunately not all of the story is a happy one and there are some losses of dear friends on the way.
As usual the book is sometimes a wee bit confusing to read in that the author always writes in first person perspective but switches between characters from chapter to chapter. Sometimes you get caught off guard when the person, who’s perspective you are following, changes. I have gotten used to it now after seven book but it still requires some effort when reading.
On the whole a quite read worthy book though.

Exciting book that leaves you longing for more

The Sac'a'rith Rebirth (Lost Tales of Power Volume VII) is another exciting episode in a long line of books written by Vincent Trigili. I was lucky enough to stumble across the first book in the series (The Enemy of an Enemy) as a free book, you can still find it free to get you started, and have been reading every book since. The Sac'a'rith Rebirth goes into more detail explaining who the Sac'a'rith are and where they came from. There are many surprises in this book like a new character. Through a stroke of fate he joins the group on the Night Wisp although he is a mundane. It remains to be seen if he will be a loyal ally or a spy set to destroy the group.
If you have not read any of the series try the free Enemy of an Enemy But you should at least read Volume V “The Sac'a'rith” before reading “The Sac'a'rith Rebirth”.

Wanting more.

This is the last book in this series for now. The writer promised that there is another book by mid 2016. I was lucky that I have discovered this series a couple of months ago, so read it from start to finish with no break and it was a great journey. Combining wizards with technology is a first for me and I find that it gives the plot more depth. Although we have around 3 groups of heroes, their paths intertwine in a very interesting manner. I might re-read the 7 books to be able to enjoy them more without the suspense. Really loved them and will keep an eye for the coming book.
